Galatasaray handed double injury blowSanchez and Bardakci out United will be without RashfordWHAT HAPPENED?

According to the Turkish publication, the Turkish giants could be without the services of former Tottenham defender Davison Sanchez and Abdulkerim Bardakci. While Sanchez has been ruled out with a strain in his upper left rear muscle, Bardakci could still make it to the matchday squad if he can successfully negotiate a late fitness test.

The Red Devils seek redemption against Galatasaray, after a defeat at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture, which could help them overcome a troubled Champions League campaign. Sitting fourth in Group A, they are desperate for the three points to boost qualification chances. The defeat to FC Copenhagen in the previous fixture further complicated the math for United who now face a must-win situation to keep their hopes alive for the the knockout rounds.

DID YOU KNOW?

Almost 30 years back, in 1993, Sir Alex Ferguson's squad failed to produce the goods in a do-or-die knockout match in Istanbul as they were held to a goalless draw, following a 3-3 result at Old Trafford. Eric Cantona was sent off and it is believed that the United players got into a tussle with riot police in the tunnel in the aftermath of the shock exit from Europe.

United also have a lengthy injury list as several first-team players are out injured including includingCasemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo, and Tyrell Malacia. Mason Mount was the latest casualty as the former Chelsea midfielder picked up a fresh calf injury which will rule him out for the game against Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford will miss the game after he was sent off against FC Copenhagen in United's last European fixture. Nonetheless, they might be boosted with the return of Rasmus Hojlund, who has been in fine form in Europe scoring five goals in four matches, as the Danish striker is back in training.

Declan Rice, Ilkay Gundogan and the 10 players Arsenal are most likely to sign in the 2023 summer transfer window

Despite enjoying a strong campaign, the Gunners are set to spend big again as they prepare for their return to the Champions League

Arsenal are set for another busy summer transfer window. Fresh from guiding his young team to a second-placed finish in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta is determined to improve his squad as the club gears up to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2017.

Some big name additions are expected to arrive in north London, but who could they be? GOAL takes a look at the 10 most likely candidates…

GettyDeclan Rice (West Ham)

It’s no secret that Arsenal want to sign West Ham’s captain and that they have already put a lot of work in behind the scenes to try and get a deal done. But that does not mean they are guaranteed to land Rice, even though it is understood he is open to making the move across London.

There is strong rival interest in the England international that Arsenal will need to see off if they are going to sign him, and they are also going to need to absolutely smash their club-record transfer fee, that currently stands at the £72m ($89m) they paid Lille for Nicolas Pepe in 2019.

West Ham want in excess of £100m (£123.5m) for their skipper and will be hoping for a bidding war to drive the price up further. Whether Arsenal have the financial capability to win the race for Rice remains to be seen, but they are certainly going to try.

AdvertisementGettyMoises Caicedo (Brighton)

Arsenal pushed hard for Caicedo in January but were left disappointed when Brighton rejected two bids for their midfielder. The Gunners remain interested in the 21-year-old, but it is currently unclear whether they will bid for him as well as Rice this summer. It could be a case of one, rather than both as they look to reshape their midfield.

Caicedo has signed a new contract at Brighton since Arsenal’s failed attempts to sign him in January, but that does not mean he will not be moving on in the coming weeks.

GettyIlkay Gundogan (Man City)

Arsenal do have an interest in Gundogan and talks have taken place with his representatives over a possible free transfer this summer. Manchester City are still trying to get him to sign a new contract, but if he doesn’t, he will be available on a free transfer.

A move to Barcelona remains the most likely option, but Arsenal are trying to convince him to stay in the Premier League following his glittering career at the Etihad. He would be a perfect, low-cost replacement for Granit Xhaka.

GettyMason Mount (Chelsea)

Arsenal, like the rest of the top clubs in the Premier League, are keeping close tabs on Mount’s situation at Chelsea. It looks increasingly certain he will leave this summer rather than sign a new contract, and talks have been held over a potential move to the Emirates.

But several other clubs are also in the mix, including Manchester United and Liverpool, so it will be a difficult race to win. Chelsea are believed to want around £70m for Mount, a figure that could price Arsenal out of a move.

Arsenal player ratings vs Crystal Palace: Takehiro Tomiyasu has a nightmare but Martin Odegaard spares Gunners' blushes

Mikel Arteta's side made it two wins from two in the Premier League, but they were made to work hard for the three points

Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Monday night in an incident-packed derby that saw Takehiro Tomiyasu sent off, and Martin Odegaard score the winner. The Gunners were perhaps slightly unimpressive throughout the fixture, but they managed to earn a vital three points in one of the trickiest away games in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta's side earned the lead through Martin Odegaard but Takehiro Tomiyasu was sent off, and left the north London side hanging on over the final 29 minutes of the contest.

Nevertheless, the Gunners were resilient and managed to hang on and secure all three points.

GOAL rates Arsenal's players from Selhurst Park…

GettyGoalkeeper & Defence

Aaron Ramsdale (6/10):

Did exactly what he needed to do and was never really stretched.

Thomas Partey (6/10):

Played out of position but dominated his flank. Was rarely beaten by the tricky Eberechi Eze.

Ben White (6/10):

Got his head to everything but did seem uncomfortable against Palace's pace.

William Saliba (7/10):

Solid as a rock at the back and impressed with his distribution.

Takehiro Tomiyasu (3/10):

Sent off, perhaps harshly, for two yellow cards, but never got up to the pace of the game.

Declan Rice (7/10):

There's a real majesty to his game at his best. Read the play well and calmed Arsenal down when they were a man light.

Kai Havertz (5/10):

Some nice touches but was barely in the game in the final third. Arteta needs to figure out his role in the team.

Martin Odegaard (8/10):

Cool as ice from the penalty spot and played excellently, forever keeping Arsenal ticking.

GettyAttack

Bukayo Saka (6/10):

Not at his effervescent best but continually ran at Palace and tried to make things happen.

Eddie Nketiah (6/10):

Won the penalty from which Odegaard scored but blazed over an easy chance in the first half.

Gabriel Martinelli (5/10):

On the fringes of the game all night.

Gabriel (6/10):

On after the sending off to mop up defensively and did exactly that.

Jorginho (6/10):

Got his foot on the ball and slowed play down as Arsenal saw the game out.

Jakub Kiwior (N/A):

On too late to make any sort of impact.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (N/A)

Only introduced for the final few minutes.

Mikel Arteta (6/10):

Will be delighted with the win but this wasn't a sparkling Arsenal display. They'll move on quickly, and he did tighten them up after the red card.

The Red Dragons climbed to the second spot in the League Two table after scoring six past Morecambe at the Racecourse Ground. After Joel Senior's own goal handed Wrexham an early lead, Paul Mullin added another just two minutes after the opener. Jacob Mendy increased the margin before Mullin struck twice in the second half to complete his hat-trick. James Jones scored deep into stoppage time to pile more misery on Morecambe which further thrilled Parkinson as his side was heading into the fixture on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Parkinson said: "We have got no divine right to win but we have won a lot. When you lose it hurts and it is a long week. It is as simple as that. No matter how long you have been a manager, when you lose, it is a lot of soul-searching. But you can't change it and you can just respond as a group.

"The response on the training ground has been outstanding from the lads and there was a real positive feeling coming into this game. We wanted to get back to winning ways and we have done it in emphatic fashion."

The massive victory also drew euphoric reactions from co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. While Reynolds labelled the efforts from the lads as "incredible hustle", McElhenney hailed Mullin as "incredible" for gifting another remarkable afternoon to the fans.

Caf Champions League: Predicting Mamelodi Sundowns' XI to face Al Merrikh

Masandawana have already booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a game to spare and they will now face the Sudanese giants on Saturday

Sundowns rested some of their key players during their last game which was a Group A clash against Al Merrikh's Sudanese rivals, Al Hilal Omdurman, on March 19 as the Tshwane giants secured a 4-2 win.

Masandawana will now be looking to end a successful group stage with a win over Al Merrikh.

GOAL takes a look at how the PSL champions could start at FNB Stadium.

BackpagepixGOALKEEPER – Reyaad Pieterse

The towering shot-stopper was given an opportunity to start against Al Hilal and he had a good game between the sticks.

Pieterse is most likely to be handed another starting berth with the club's first-choice keeper Denis Onyango out injured, while the ageing Kennedy Mweene is being rested.

The speedster has been one of Sundowns' standout performers in the group stage having scored three times in four matches.

Two of his goals came against Al Hilal and he will be keen to continue his scoring form when he faces Al Merrikh.

The lanky full-back has impressed whenever he has been given a chance to start for the Tshwane giants this season.

Lunga could be handed a rare start with Lyle Lakay being rested having been part of the Bafana Bafana squad which travelled to Europe for two international friendly games.

Robert Lewandowski, Lautaro Martinez and Donyell Malen are the heroes of UEFA Champions League FedEx Performance Zone

The star forwards put in impressive displays for their sides in the first legs of the round-of-16

The UEFA Champions League knockout stage is starting to take shape now that all of the first legs of the round-of-16 ties have taken place. Inter and FC Porto have the advantage from the latest round of games, while PSV are tied with Borussia Dortmund and Napoli are all square with Barcelona.

Serie A leaders Inter are flying high and took a narrow advantage from their encounter with Diego Simeone's Atletico de Madrid. FC Porto, too, picked up a slender lead as they snatched a last-gasp winner from their home match against Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.

Things are all square between PSV and Borussia Dortmund, as the Dutch side fought back to earn a vital draw after falling behind on home soil, while Barcelona went ahead in Italy before Napoli managed to snatch a draw later in the second half.

It was an interesting week of matches in Europe's most prestigious competition, but who were the standout performers? With the help of the FedEx Performance Zone, GOAL takes a look at the stars of the UCL last week.

Getty ImagesDonyell Malen | Borussia Dortmund | 65 points

Back on home soil against the team that sold him to Borussia Dortmund, Donyell Malen made a huge impression against PSV. The forward opened the scoring just 24 minutes into the UEFA Champions League tie in Eindhoven but he did much more than that. No one had more shots in the game than the Oranje star's five attempts, but he had an incredible four on target – no one else forced more than one save in the entire game. He was absolutely pivotal for his team and was unlucky not to have given them a lead when they left Noord-Brabant.

AdvertisementGettyRobert Lewandowski | Barcelona | 50 points

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski was a huge force for Barcelona in their trip to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday. He gave his team the lead on the hour mark, but he was a massive threat throughout the game. The 35-year-old had four shouts overall – all inside the box – and won four aerial challenges over the field, marking him as a big help to Xavi's team leaving with a 1-1 draw.

GettyLautaro Martinez | Inter | 50 points

Inter look devastating in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. They owe much of that to coach Simeone Inzaghi, but perhaps even more to star striker Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine has grown into an unbelievable figure for the San Siro side and that was on show in their match against a brutal Atletico de Madrid team. He did not get on the scoresheet, but the forward was integral as he had a total of seven shots and fought hard to win the ball as Inter managed a 1-0 win.

Getty ImagesGaleno | FC Porto | 48 points

FC Porto midfielder Galeno has been unbelievable in the UEFA Champions League this season. It was no surprise, then, to see that the late winner in his team's match against Arsenal was scored by the 26-year-old. He had already hit the woodwork in the last-16 tie and with four goals and three assists to his name in the competition before kick-off, he was a man to watch for Arteta's team, yet they could not keep him silent until the end.

Super subs save Southgate and Maguire! England winners, losers and ratings from Germany thriller

Gareth Southgate's substitutes saved him as England came from two down to eventually draw with Germany.

A Nick Pope error gifted Germany a late equaliser as England ended their Nations League campaign with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Wembley on Monday night.

After Friday's drab 1-0 defeat in Italy, things looked to be going from bad to worse for under-fire manager Southgate as Germany moved into a 2-0 lead midway through the second half through a penalty from Ilkay Gundogan and a Kai Havertz stunner.

But a stirring fightback from England, which was sparked by substitutes Bukayo Saka and Mason Mount, saw the hosts score three times in 12 remarkable minutes to turn the game on its head.

Saka had a hand in all three goals, with Luke Shaw scoring the first. Mount then swept in a stunning second to make it 2-2 before Harry Kane struck from the penalty spot to give England the lead with just seven minutes remaining.

It looked like Southgate's side were going to get a morale-boosting victory, only for Pope to spill Serge Gnabry's shot from distance on 87 minutes, allowing Havertz to poke home a late leveller.

England's run without a victory has now stretched to six games, but the way they fought back from 2-0 down would have at least lifted spirits ahead of the World Cup, which gets underway in just two months' time.

The Winners

Winner: Jude Bellingham

England's best player, just as he was against Italy.

When everyone else looked out on their feet, he was the player who stood up and got the team going again.

If there was any doubt before these two games over whether Bellingham should start at the World Cup, then there can't be any more.

It's frightening how good he is at the age of just 19 and it's not just his quality on the ball that is impressive, it's the leadership qualities he demonstrates.

The Borussia Dortmund star has cemented his starting spot in Qatar.

Winner: Bukayo Saka

Isn't it strange how well players can perform when they are played in their proper positions?

Saka struggled against Italy on Friday night, but it was no surprise given he was asked to operate as a left wing-back.

But as soon as he was introduced against Germany on the right wing he turned the game on its head.

He was direct, positive and looked to take players on. Everything we see from him in an Arsenal shirt each week.

Saka was involved in all three goals and showed why he must be starting in Qatar when the World Cup gets underway.

Winner: Mason Mount

It's not been an easy start to the season for Mount at Chelsea.

He's played eight times in all competitions without scoring for his club and has come in for a fair bit of criticism for his performances.

So coming off the bench and scoring such a good goal to make it 2-2 was a huge moment for Mount, who would have known the pressure he was under going into the game.

AdvertisementThe Losers

Loser: Harry Maguire and Gareth Southgate

I'm going to include these two as a pair, because it's tough to separate them when assessing the situation.

Yes, Maguire was to blame for the penalty. His initial pass to give the ball away was sloppy and then the challenge which gave away the spot kick was shambolic.

But the fact is he shouldn't have been on the pitch in the first place to give away the foul.

Maguire had actually played relatively well up to that point, but the fact he has played so little football this season always leaves him open to doing something sloppy like that.

Southgate is doing him no favours by picking him. The Manchester United man shouldn't even be in the squad, let alone the starting XI.

Maguire may have done very well for Southgate in the past, but you can only pick a player on past performances for so long.

Southgate set himself up for a fall with his team selection and he has no-one to blame but himself for what happened.

Loser: John Stones

The Manchester City defender lasted just 37 minutes before he was replaced by Kyle Walker with what looked like a hamstring injury.

Obviously it will take a few days before the true extent of the injury is known, but you would think that Stones will now be missing for at least the next three weeks.

That will be a major blow to both him and Pep Guardiola, with Manchester City heading into a crucial run of fixtures in the Premier League and Champions League.

Southgate will also be nervously looking on and will be hoping to see his centre-back return sooner rather than later.

Loser: Aaron Ramsdale

The fact Gareth Southgate has picked Nick Pope in both of these two Nation League games suggests he is very much second in line behind Jordan Pickford now.

Most thought Aaron Ramsdale would start against Germany having sat out the game against Italy, but the Arsenal man was once again on the bench.

It seemed an odd decision by Southgate, especially as Pope struggles to play out with the ball at his feet – something that the England boss demands from his keeper.

But the fact the Newcastle man still got the nod over Ramsdale tells its own story in terms of where the Arsenal keeper clearly is in the England pecking order.

Watching Pope struggle all night would have made things even more frustrating for Ramsdale.

GettyEngland Ratings: Defence

Nick Pope (3/10):

Looked shaky all evening whenever he had the ball at his feet. Horrible error for Germany's third goal.

Jon Stones (6/10):

Injured early on. Had started the game well.

Eric Dier (5/10):

Nervy in possession, but fairly solid otherwise.

Harry Maguire (4/10):

Awful moment for Germany's opening goal. Had looked OK up to that point. Gave away possession in the build-up to the second goal as well.

Weston Mckennie in the midfield and Tim Weah on the wing! USMNT duo make the Juventus XI and help lock-down rivals Torino in fortifying 2-0 win

McKennie starts in midfieldWeah back in at wingbackJuve win 2-0

Both Americans earned the start in Juve's 2-0 win over Torino, with the two playing together for the first time. Prior to Saturday, McKennie and Weah had been battling for the same position at right wing-back, but the former's return to a familiar midfield spot opened the door for the latter to make his own return to the XI.

Their starts came in a Juve win, as the Italian giants continued their dominance in their local derby with Torino. With the win, Juventus continued a run that has seen them lose just once to Torino in the last 28 years.

GettyWHAT HAPPENED?

The match seemingly started on a high for Juve, who, just a few minutes in, appeared to seize an early advantage on a goal from Moise Kean, who started up top in place of the injured Dusan Vlahovic. The goal, though, was ruled back, giving Torino a lifeline early.

Juve did eventually get their goal, though, early in the second half, although that one two was nearly called back as well. A lengthy review followed after Federico Gatti was able to finally tap home a rebound from close range following a set piece, but Juve were rewarded as the VAR determined there was no offside on the sequence.

Substitute Arkadiusz Milik put the game out of reach in the 62nd minute with a towering header from a Filip Kostic corner kick, sealing another win for Juve in a match where their attack never quite got going from open play.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE

McKennie's return to the midfield will be the story of the game as he joined usual starters Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot in the center of the pitch.

The American had largely been starting as a wingback in recent weeks, making five starts in the position prior to Saturday's return to the center. With McKennie starting, Weah had been relegated to the bench, but his teammate's shift freed up his starting spot out wide.

It remains to be seen if Massimiliano Allegri will continue to see McKennie as a potential midfield starter. The USMNT star didn't quite steal the show in Saturday's win, as he was just solid, but not spectacular. In an ideal world, he would have been a bit more involved than he was as, out of Juve's three midfielders, he was the least active on the ball throughout the match.

GettyUSMNT IMPACT

The U.S. isn't concerned with where McKennie and Weah are playing, but rather how they are playing and how often. Even so, McKennie's move back to the middle will be a welcome sight.

McKennie faces a big test in the coming international break with Tyler Adams still out due to injury, leaving the U.S. without their star No. 6. As a result, McKennie and Yunus Musah could be asked to do a bit more defending if the U.S. flip their midfield to include a No. 10 like, say, Gio Reyna.

As for Weah, he remains a go-to starter on the wing and will likely play significant minutes for the U.S. during the international break.

GettyGOAL'S RATINGS

Weston McKennie (6/10):

Decent, but not incredible. Could have been a bit more active in the attack as Juve dominated the game but, overall, it's hard to complain too much in a 2-0 win that never looked in doubt.

Tim Weah (7/10):

Very good to see him get 90 minutes, especially considering his recent spell as a substitute. Had a few good moments, but will need to be a bit more precise in the final third going forward.
