A spectator has been slapped with a three-year ban from attending any matches in Australia, and will also face court in Hobart after allegedly writing a racially offensive message on a fence inside the Bellerive Oval on day one of the Test. The message was reportedly directed at South Africa batsman Hashim Amla, and police have confirmed a 24-year old man from Longford in Tasmania’s north has been charged on summons.”Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania can confirm a crowd behaviour issue that occurred on day one of the Commonwealth Bank Test match against South Africa in Hobart,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson said.”Tasmania Police identified the person of interest through CCTV and witnesses in the area. Cricket Australia has issued the person with a three-year ban from any Cricket Australia match, nationally.”Cricket Australia takes a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour at any of our matches, which includes racial vilification.”Our message to any fan attending a match is that if you display anti-social behavior, you will be removed and risk being banned from any cricket match across Australia, as well as police action being taken.”Cricket South Africa also issued a statement on the matter: “We have been informed that the man has been formally charged and has been handed a three-year ban from the stadium.”From our point of view, it is disappointing and disconcerting because this is not the first act of racial vilification we have received while touring Australia over the years. It is unacceptable. There is absolutely no place for racial stereotyping and such offensive acts in society, let alone in sport.”We thank Cricket Australia and the authorities for dealing with the matter in a swift, professional and stern way and for carrying out the full might of the law.”

Leeds Plot Swoop For £10m Championship Star

Leeds United will be on the hunt for players who can help them quickly bounce back from a drop into the Championship next season and now a new update has emerged on a potential transfer target.

What's the latest on Leeds' interest in Gustavo Hamer?

According to Football League World, Leeds are interested in signing Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer this summer.

As per the report, the 49ers have ambitious plans for the club upon their full buyout of Andrea Radrizzani and want to make Hamer their marquee signing for their Championship campaign.

Who is Gustavo Hamer?

The talented midfielder has been one of the standout perfomers in the Championship this season and played a key role in assisting Coventry to their play-off final at Wembley last month.

As imagined, there is wide speculation that several members of the Leeds squad are looking for opportunities to depart Elland Road this summer after joining the club based on their Premier League status, with Marc Roca one of the latest names to be dropped into the departures debate.

It was also reported by Football League World late last week that the midfielder could be set to return to his native Spain to join Real Betis on a loan deal for the season ahead.

As a result, the signing of Hamer – who has an estimated valuation of £10m – would be a great opportunity to not only bring in a player with sound Championship experience but the quality to help Leeds achieve a rapid return to the top flight by replacing Roca in the centre of the pitch.

Over 41 league appearances, the 25-year-old talent – hailed "unbelievable" by former Coventry City goalkeeper Marko Marosi – scored nine goals, registered ten assists and created a whopping 16 big chances.

More than just an attacking outlet, the Sky Blues star registered 1.8 key passes, 2.6 tackles, 1.1 successful dribbles and won 4.8 duels per game, proving that he is a huge presence and a perfect all-rounder in his deeper midfield role.

Hamer will be in the last year of his contract with Coventry this season which could prove to be a sticking point that leads to a cut-price deal being accepted by the club to ensure they don't lose one of their most prolific assets on a free next summer.

With that being said, Leeds should be all over any opportunity to sign Hamer this summer and if he can emulate his consistency and incredible output at Elland Road he could play a huge role in an automatic return to the top flight for the Whites.

South Africa surge ahead on seamers' day

Vernon Philander and Kyle Abbott led South Africa’s fightback after they were bowled out for 286 early on day two, giving Sri Lanka no respite as they went to stumps seven down for 181

Moonda: SA bowlers made best use of conditions

Vernon Philander and Kyle Abbott led South Africa’s fightback after they were bowled out for 286 early on day two, giving Sri Lanka no respite as they went to stumps seven down for 181. Dhananjaya de Silva was batting on 43 when bad light brought play to an early close, playing some sparkling strokes through the on side and profiting from an ageing ball that wasn’t moving nearly as much as it had done all the way up to tea.But South Africa had inflicted plenty of damage by then, generating swing and seam movement off a greenish pitch that was now pockmarked by indentations made by the ball’s repeated impact. Abbott and Philander exploited this to the fullest by consistently hitting a fullish length in the channel outside off. Only Suranga Lakmal – who completed his maiden five-wicket haul in the morning session – had managed this among Sri Lanka’s frontline seamers.
Lakmal’s long wait ends

0 Five-wicket hauls for Suranga Lakmal in 31 Tests before this. Only four bowlers have taken longer than Lakmal’s 56 innings for their maiden Test five-for. Sanath Jayasuirya heads this list; his first five-for came in his 83rd innings.

2 Sri Lanka pacers have taken Test five-fors in South Africa before Lakmal. Chanka Welegedara took 5 for 52 in Durban in 2011-12, and Dilhara Fernando took 5 for 98 in Durban in 2000-01

There were few freebies for Sri Lanka’s batsmen: by stumps, only 41.98% of their runs had come through the leg side, despite a spike after tea when the wristy de Silva flicked balls off his stumps and Kagiso Rabada fed Rangana Herath a succession of deliveries directed down the leg side. South Africa’s batsmen, in contrast, had scored 59.09% of their runs in that half of the field.Seam movement did for Kaushal Silva in the ninth over after lunch, after he had ground out 16 in just under two hours at the crease. Stretching out and following what appeared to be a full outswinger from Philander, he ended up playing a long way outside the line as the ball nipped back in and hit him flush on the front pad, in front of off stump. Silva and Mathews, both taking guard on off stump, had added 39 for the fourth wicket, keeping South Africa out for 13.5 uneasy overs after Sri Lanka had been reduced to 22 for 3.Mathews had left well in the short period he spent at the crease before lunch, but was getting increasingly drawn into drives away from his body, his front foot not really getting too far forward or across. It brought him two crisply timed boundaries through cover, but also an ugly play-and-miss when Philander floated one fuller and wider.Having been on the shorter side through his first spell, Rabada began bowling fuller when he came back in the second half of the post-lunch session, and persisted with that length even after Dinesh Chandimal had driven him to the cover point boundary. Reward arrived soon enough, as Mathews poked at one that left him, playing a long way outside his body, and edged to third slip. Rabada could have had another in his next over, when Chandimal nicked an away-swinger to the right of Quinton de Kock, only for the keeper to spill the low, diving chance. It wasn’t too costly a miss. Chandimal only added 11 to his score before Philander had him lbw with an in-cutter that had initially seemed set to shape away in the air. Herath, putting everything into his pulls and swipes through the leg side, added 36 for the seventh wicket before becoming the 9999th batsman out lbw in Test cricket. Missing an ambitious reverse-sweep, he gave his fellow left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj his first wicket of the day.The first three Sri Lankan wickets came from avoidable shots, but they were also the result of the lines and lengths Abbott and Philander bowled, which magnified the smallest error. Dimuth Karunaratne drove away from his body, and Abbott found a bit of inward movement to find his inside edge into the stumps. Then Kusal Perera, lucky not to have edged a flat-footed swipe at Abbott in the previous over, slashed at Philander and nicked behind. Ten balls later, Kusal Mendis looked to drive Abbott on the up, failing to account for late away movement, and Sri Lanka were 22 for 3.In just eight overs, Abbott and Philander had transformed the mood of the Test match. Till then Sri Lanka had been the happier team, by far, having taken only 8.5 overs to wrap up South Africa’s lower order, sending them crashing from 267 for 6 to 286 all out.It only took Sri Lanka only 4.4 overs to get their first wicket of the day, Nuwan Pradeep’s short-ball barrage inducing a top-edged pull from Philander, caught at deep square leg. In Pradeep’s previous over, Philander had gloved another pull, only for Dinesh Chandimal, diving to his left behind the wicket, to drop a sharp chance.Chandimal, who had taken three catches on day one, soon got another opportunity as Lakmal produced the perfect fourth-stump outswinger to find Keshav Maharaj’s edge. A dive to the right, in front of first slip, gave Lakmal his best Test figures. Then came a moment of madness from Quinton de Kock, who, desperate to stay on strike, called Abbott for a non-existent second run before sending him back, giving him no chance of beating Kusal Perera’s throw from deep point to the keeper. Pradeep then ended South Africa’s innings in the most emphatic manner, going around the wicket and bowling de Kock with an inswinging yorker.

Man United Leave £375k-p/w Star Off Retained List

David de Gea is has been left off Manchester United's retained list but the club have stated that "discussions remain open" over a new contract.

When does David De Gea's contract expire?

The Spanish goalkeeper currently earns £375k-per-week but that deal expires at the end of the month on June 30.

With that being the case, negotiations have been going on for some time but it appears he will have to take a notable pay cut to remain at Old Trafford.

Indeed, Man United have already seen an extension offer worth £200k-per-week reportedly turned by De Gea who presumably wasn't happy with the terms.

However, with no agreement reached yet, at this moment in time it seems that he could well be leaving in just a matter of weeks now.

After all, the club released their official retained list this week and the goalkeeper was not included. Despite that, though, he wasn't among those – such as Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe – to be confirmed as a departure either.

Instead, the statement explained: "In terms of the goalkeeping department, discussions remain open with David De Gea over a potential new contract."

Will De Gea leave Man United?

Some of the club's departures have been known for some time. For instance, after 12 years at Old Trafford, Phil Jones penned an emotional goodbye message on Instagram at the start of June.

De Gea's situation, however, has been unclear for months and even after plenty of discussions behind the scenes, no final decision appears to have been made just yet.

The player wouldn’t have helped his hopes for a big new contract with some iffy displays last term – notably conceding a howler away at West Ham. Even so, he's still be a regular under Erik ten Hag, playing 38 league games and keeping 17 clean sheets.

Man United's David De Gea

And so, it's not hard to understand why the Red Devils don't want to offer him the same sort of wages he currently earns.

Indeed, if De Gea wants to earn that sort of cash, it looks as though he'll have to leave England this summer. According to 90min, interest from Saudi Arabia's Pro League could allow him to manage that.

Still, Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT just last month that the idea for Man United and the player is to "continue together" and negotiations are "very, very advanced.

He explained: "They wanted to reduce his salary but, at the same time, to have a different structure with the contract – maybe a longer contract with a different structure of the salary – so this is the discussion, but it's now very, very advanced.

"De Gea wants to stay and Manchester United want to keep De Gea, so the idea is to continue together. I think Erik ten Hag has been very, very clear on that. It's about the final clauses and then it will be completed soon."

With that being the case, even if they've missed this deadline, it does sound as though it could all be sorted just in time before his contract officially expires.

Man United Not Keen To Splash £80m On Bundesliga Striker

Manchester United's search for a striker looks like it may drag on, with the club now stalling on a move for another target in Randal Kolo Muani, according to a report from The Mirror.

How many goals has Randal Kolo Muani scored?

The current Eintracht Frankfurt striker has only been with his club for one season, but has already made quite the impact in Germany with his new team. He bagged a total of 15 goals and eleven assists over the course of the Bundesliga season – double digits in both areas – and didn't struggle to adapt to life in a new country in the slightest.

His rate of 26 goal contributions in just 31 starts was actually a career best for the player, averaging out at 0.89 goal contributions per 90.

It means that, right now, he ranks as one of the best in his position in Europe. When compared to other strikers in the Men's 'Top Five' big leagues, his non-penalty goal rate of 0.43 per 90 is well above average (70th percentile) and his assist ranking is even better. With 0.31 per 90, it puts him in the top three percent in that category – meaning that not only can Kolo Muani hit the back of the net frequently, but is one of the very best at teeing up his teammates too.

That has led to the player already generating interest in his services from elsewhere. Premier League side Man United are one of the biggest names to make an approach for the forward, with the Red Devils having already made contact over a potential transfer for him this summer. However, things have quietened for the Frankfurt man and it may now be clear as to why.

Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani

Are Manchester United signing Randal Kolo Muani?

According to a report from The Mirror, the German side are demanding a fee of £80m for the striker this summer window – and United are not too keen to fork out that amount of money for him.

The Red Devils have looked at other potential striking options too but have also previously been put off by the asking prices for some of their other targets. The club opted not to move for Harry Kane because Tottenham wanted an "unrealistic" amount for example and a deal for Victor Osimhen is also seen as too expensive for the side.

Now, it appears as though the man they thought could be a cheaper alternative to Kane may also be priced out of a move to Old Trafford. If the Red Devils want to bring in some fresh recruits in attack though, they may be forced to bite the bullet with either the Frankfurt striker or one of their other targets this transfer window.

Azhar ruled out as Pakistan seek MCG rebound

Pakistan have not beaten Australia in Australia in any format since 2005, and they will be without their captain Azhar Ali in the second ODI at the MCG

The Preview by Brydon Coverdale14-Jan-2017Match factsJanuary 15, 2017
Start time 1420 local (0320 GMT)David Warner made 156 in his last ODI innings at the MCG•Cricket Australia

Big pictureBarely an hour into the first ODI at the Gabba on Friday, Pakistan looked well placed to secure their first win over Australia in Australia in any format since 2005. In the 17th over, the hosts had stumbled to 5 for 78 – David Warner and Steven Smith had gone in the fifth over of the game. But Australia’s batting order is about as long as Billy Stanlake, and a remarkable rebuild was led by Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell. Australia’s 9 for 268 proved not only competitive but enough to set up a 92-run victory. It was an opportunity missed for Pakistan, who now head to the MCG on Sunday down 0-1 in the five-ODI series. Adding to their woes, they will be without their captain Azhar Ali, who has been ruled out* after sustaining a hamstring injury during the Brisbane game. Without Azhar and vice-captain Sarfraz Ahmed, who flew home for personal reasons ahead of the first match, Pakistan have announced Mohammad Hafeez will take over as their stand-in captain.Form guideAustralia: WWWWL (last five completed matches, most recent first)
Pakistan: LWWWW
In the spotlightAt the Gabba on Friday, Travis Head sent down 10 overs of his offspin for a miserly 28 runs – never before in his one-day career had he delivered his full allocation. In fact, Head has been such a part-timer at the level below that in 16 ODIs he has bowled far more overs than in the remainder of his 33 List A games combined. If Australia can continue to get value from Head with the ball, it will make him an especially attractive prospect across formats. At the Gabba he also moved up to open the batting for the first time in ODIs, and made a run-a-ball 39.Imad Wasim impressed at the Gabba, where his left-arm spin troubled Australia’s batsmen and he picked up 2 for 35 from his 10 overs. A valuable lower-order batsman with a first-class double-century to his name, he also chipped in with 29 in Pakistan’s ultimately unsuccessful chase, making him the second top scorer behind Babar Azam.Team newsJosh Hazlewood was rested for the first ODI but is likely to come in for the second game, possibly for Billy Stanlake, who appeared physically troubled at times during his debut in Brisbane. Adam Zampa may also come into consideration, though with Travis Head having bowled 10 tight overs of spin at the Gabba and Glenn Maxwell also in the XI, the legspinner could be surplus to requirements.Australia (possible) 1 David Warner, 2 Travis Head, 3 Steven Smith (capt), 4 Chris Lynn, 5 Mitchell Marsh, 6 Glenn Maxwell, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 James Faulkner, 9 Pat Cummins, 10 Mitchell Starc, 11 Josh Hazlewood.Azhar Ali’s hamstring injury has ruled him out of contention. With Shoaib Malik also ruled out, having failed to recover from the throat infection that kept him out in Brisbane, Asad Shafiq should take Azhar’s place, though Hafeez will most likely open in his stead.Pakistan (possible) 1 Mohammad Hafeez (capt), 2 Sharjeel Khan, 3 Babar Azam, 4 Asad Shafiq, 5 Umar Akmal, 6 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 7 Imad Wasim, 8 Mohammad Nawaz 9 Mohammad Amir, 10 Wahab Riaz, 11 Hasan Ali.Pitch and conditionsThe drop-in pitches at the MCG can be a little two-paced, but big runs can still be on offer. In last month’s Chappell-Hadlee ODI at the venue, David Warner smashed 156, though no other batsman in the game passed 40. The forecast for Sunday is for a partly cloudy day and a top of 23C.Stats and trivia Australia have won their past nine ODIs at the MCG, last losing there to Sri Lanka in March 2012 At no ground has Mitchell Starc taken more ODI wickets than the MCG, where he has picked up 17 at 14.23 In the first game at the Gabba, Matthew Wade became just the second Australian (James Faulkner was the other) to score an ODI hundred from outside the top six.
