A 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend has surely alleviated fears of relegation for Southampton fans, right?

The arrival of Ralph Hasenhuttl in December has undeniably led to a marked improvement for the Saints following a dismal start to their Premier League campaign under former boss Mark Hughes.

Impressive displays against the likes of Spurs and Arsenal at St. Mary’s Stadium have been backed up by promising performances on their travels against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks.

Yet despite their results against the Premier League’s traditional top six sides, Southampton have struggled to replicate their form against teams who are also threatened by relegation as illustrated by their recent 2-1 loss at home to Cardiff City.

With his side currently 16th in the league standings and just two points above the relegation zone, Hassenhuttl will know that a defeat on their travels against Brighton & Hove Albion on March 30th could see them fall back into the danger zone.

Although the Championship is hardly unfamiliar territory for the Saints giving the fact that they have spent five of the last thirteen seasons in the second level of England’s footballing pyramid, a return to that level could see the departure of a whole host of players.

The only way that Southampton could realistically keep a hold of the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Danny Ings and Ryan Bertrand is by remaining in the Premier League and so the next eight games are crucial for the club’s immediate future.

36 points were enough for the Saints to stay up last season yet Hasenhuttl will be aiming for the magic total of 40 which should easily secure survival this year. With his side currently 10 points away from this mark, the former RB Leipzig boss will be targeting games against Brighton, Newcastle United and Huddersfield Town as key clashes to achieve their goal.

Whereas a defeat to the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium at the end of March may not prove to be a defining result in Southampton’s season, it could put a big enough dent in their confidence to cause concern amongst supporters.

Hassenhuttl’s future with the club may also be defined by the outcome of this season as relegation to the Championship could bring about the real possibility of him departing from his role at St Mary’s.

Aston Villa are finally starting to play the Dean Smith way, and it’s all thanks to the return to fitness of Jack Grealish.

The Villans swept Middlesbrough aside on Saturday afternoon, with goals from Anwar El Ghazi, John McGinn and Albert Adomah carrying Smith’s side to a convincing 3-0 win.

While Boro were woeful, the home side were absolutely excellent at times, with some of their attacking patterns representative of the free-flowing football Smith instilled at Brentford.

The likes of Grealish and McGinn had an absolute field day, and the former’s transformative effect on the side is truly stunning.

At Brentford, Smith had a mixture of skilful and speedy attackers, like Ollie Watkins and Sergi Canos, who loved driving at defenders and causing havoc.

Until recently, he has struggled to find the same dynamism from within his Villa squad, and there were growing concerns that Smith could not replicate his free-flowing Brentford brilliance at Villa Park.

Grealish’s directness from the centre of the park changes everything though, drawing players in and creating space for the other attacking outlets.

The 23 year-old has scored two and assisted one since his return, but it’s his energy and drive that really makes all the difference, allowing Smith’s side to play on the front foot – just like his Bees team always did.

Grealish and McGinn combined for five dribbles and five key passes on Saturday, constantly looking to cut through the visitors’ defensive lines, and Villa fans should now be very excited for what the future holds.

If they do not earn promotion this year, there is no need for panic. With a couple of smart signings that fit the Grealish mould, Smith could produce a fearsome attacking force next season.

Leeds United ace Ezgjan Alioski is currently with the Macedonia squad preparing for their upcoming matches against Latvia and Slovenia.

وأضاف: “إذا كانوا لا يريدونني، فلا يصوتوا لي لكن لا تدعوني فاسدًا فهو شيء لا يمكنني أن أسامح به مهما حدث”.

وعن قانون اللعب المالي النظيف: “قضية مانشستر سيتي لم تكن تتعلق بقواعد هذا القانون، بل بالأمور التأديبية، لأنهم لم يذكروا مصادر دخلهم”.

وتابع: “عندما قمنا بإعداد وتطبيق هذا القانون كان من أجل تقليل ديون الأندية وهو ما حدث بالفعل، اعتقد أنه أنقذ العديد من الإفلاس خاصة في ظل جائحة فيروس كورونا”.

Crystal Palace receive Huddersfield this weekend at SE25 and fans will surely accept nothing less than three points from the Premier League’s punching bag, although they know that it is a game they cannot afford to take for granted.

The Eagles’ home form is down there with the worst in the league – in fact, they would be in the relegation zone if not for some great away wins. Despite the efforts of the Palace faithful, Selhurst Park is anything but a fortress and that has to change.

Ahead of the Terriers’ visit, Max Meyer has stressed the importance of getting results and scoring goals at home – two things that often evade Palace – and this weekend presents the German and his teammates with the perfect opportunity to get some form going.

Jan Siewert’s side looked certain to take a fantastic three points from the London Stadium last time out but West Ham came back from 3-1 down with just 15 minutes to go and won – a result which pretty much summarises Huddersfield’s season – so if Palace cannot get a win then there will be outrage from supporters.

How then, can the Eagles finally transform Selhurst Park into a ground worthy of its’ atmosphere?

Play to all of their strengths, not just one

The glaring issue from the loss to bitter rivals Brighton – aside from the individual mistakes which led to goals – was the lack of quality decision making. The Eagles a fortunate to have a top player in Wilfried Zaha that other clubs in their position could only dream of having, but sometimes the players seem to forget that they aren’t just there to give the ball to the Ivorian.

For example, there were numerous occasions when Michy Batshuayi was making an excellent run in behind the Seagulls defence but wasn’t spotted by the man on the ball, who instead shifted it wide to Zaha. Perhaps this is partly due to the fact that the Belgian striker hasn’t been there all that long, but these are professional footballers who should know when to look up for a centre-forward rather than instinctively turning and sliding it to the left wing.

When Palace are not forced into making decisions, then they tend to rely too heavily on Zaha to work opportunities out of nothing; they play on the counter on their travels, meaning they are forced to think and pass quickly, and are far better for that reason.

The sooner the Eagles realise that there are other players in their ranks who can cause damage going forward, then the sooner their home form will improve – it’s up to Roy Hodgson to make them realise that, though.

Whilst it’s rather tricky to put a finger on what’s gone wrong for Wolverhampton Wanderers in recent times as they’ve slipped to just one win in five Premier League matches, it’s not hard to work out what the problem was last Saturday afternoon.

A misfire in team selection hugely hampered the Midlanders away at Burnley and led them to an embarrassing result, a 2-0 defeat to Sean Dyche’s men at Turf Moor.

Key figures Matt Doherty and Raul Jimenez were relegated to the substitutes’ bench in favour of Adama Traore and Ivan Cavaleiro as captain Conor Coady put through his own net and Dwight McNeil sealed the deal for the hosts late on.

The disastrous starting Xl changes cost Wolves dearly with the weakened team dominating possession but lacking any real cutting edge, which is evidenced by 62.8 percent possession and just one shot on target throughout the whole match.

Funnily enough, Wanderers’ last match before the international break was against the Red Devils, a 2-0 triumph that booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
