Rangers set to sign wanted Bolton star amid League One club’s crisis

Rangers fans have had an up and down season in Steven Gerrard’s debut season in senior management, and it looks like the former England and Liverpool captain is already making headway in the transfer market. The latest linked player is one who is in high demand, even if he plays for calamity club Bolton Wanderers.

The Gers have got a lot of players lined up this summer and with Luca Connell potentially coming in the Bluenoses could have themselves a future Ibrox icon. The Bolton star likely won’t be staying at the club this summer, Bolton have got massive cash flow problems and will need to gain some funds one way or another. The main way of doing that as a football club is through player sales, and Connell is in the firing line.

Luca Connell is a young defensive midfielder who has only made a dozen appearances for the club this season, but he has still done enough to impress. Alongside Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, Norwich, Preston North End and Southampton are all keen to bring in Connell over the summer and whilst Bolton fans won’t want to let him go, his exit is inevitable considering their current situation.

The current defensive midfield options that the Gers have at the club consist of the young Ross McCrorie and Glen Kamara, but both can also be used as a conventional central-midfielders, so bringing in someone like Luca Connell to fill in the gap in that role in midfield would be a masterstroke move by Gerrard, even if it’s a move that won’t see the Bolton man step straight in as an automatic starter.

It looks like the way that Gerrard is going is seeing the famous Rangers move away from looking to bringing in big names on big wages, instead, looking towards young lesser-known stars who can have a greater impact in the club and become big names in the future. Connell fits the mould perfectly, and even if the Gers don’t know much about the youngster, they can start get excited if he does sign.

Arsenal: Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet would be quality additions

Arsenal could certainly do with some quality additions in the summer if they are to build and improve upon this season’s steady campaign.

And, if the latest reports are true, it appears the two men that they are looking at could provide Unai Emery with exactly what he needs.

Nicolo Schira, who is a journalist for La Gazzetta dello Sport, revealed on his Twitter account that the Gunners would be watching Sampdoria’s match against Juventus with a close eye on two of the host’s players.

Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet were both name-dropped by the reported and the duo are certainly men that would get the crowd in the Emirates Stadium something to cheer about.

Taking a look at Andersen first, he is the exact type of defender that could thrive for Arsenal and be the man to finally help them stop the leaks from their leaky backline.

The Denmark Under-21 international has come on leaps and bounds this season and has been hugely impressive for Sampdoria in the Serie A this year.

Andersen is comfortable with the ball and appears to be able to make some excellent passes from out the back, which could help bring some fluidity to the way Emery’s side play and help them become more of a dangerous outfit from another area of the pitch.

A lot has been said about Praet and Arsenal in the past, however, here is just a reminder of what fans would be able to expect from the talented Belgian if he were to join them at the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 24-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder who is able to play in a number of different roles centrally, whether that be deep or further forward and would provide the Gunners with some extremely valuable options, whilst he could fit straight alongside Lucas Torreira because of their days together at Sampdoria.

Praet, who is valued at £22.5million byÂTransfermarkt, is very confident on the ball, as he can dribble past his opponents with ease, whilst he also has the ability to pick out a pass anywhere on the pitch and put his team-mates in great goalscoring opportunities. Defensively, the Belgian is not shy of putting in tackles and is rather successful when doing so as he can break up the play before it reaches his own side’s defence.

Imagine if Praet, Torreira and Andersen all teamed up in north London! Arsenal and Emery would be in dreamland!

Arsenal fans, do you think Andersen and Praet would be quality additions at the club? Do you think they would provide what Emery needs? Let us know below!

The Verdict: Would Reece James be a good signing for Leicester?

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, Leicester are in a battle with Everton and Manchester United to sign Chelsea man Reece James.

The teenager had a hugely impressive spell on loan at Wigan in the Championship this term, playing 45 times.

James displayed tremendous versatility, predominantly playing as a right-back but also playing a vital role in central midfield.

The 19-year-old is brilliant defensively but also boasts fantastic attacking traits, something that’s displayed in the six goal involvements he managed throughout 2018/19.

Chelsea are currently under a transfer embargo so any potential bids that do come in have the potential to be swatted away.

However, with a possible move to Leicester in the offing, what do Football FanCast writers make of it? Here are their verdicts on a potential Foxes swoop.

Luke Glanville

“Apart from Ricardo Pereira, Leicester City will be left with no right-back options when Danny Simpson departs this summer. Reece James is one of the most promising right-backs in English football right now, so it’s a no-brainer for Brendan Rodgers. Should the Foxes be able to prize James away from a transfer ban-ridden Chelsea this summer, they will have one of the best right-back duos in the league. And for a team with loftier ambitions than just seventh place, something like that will be key.”

James Beavis

“James would be a brilliant and sensible signing for Leicester, but Rodgers will need to be at his charming best to convince the 19-year-old to move to the King Power Stadium. The Chelsea youngster has got his taste of regular first-team football at Wigan Athletic and he surely won’t want to go back to sitting on the substitutes’ bench. Given how outstanding Pereira was for the Foxes in 2018/19, he is surely one of the first names on the team-sheet next term, which would make life very difficult for James as a right-back. Perhaps in midfield he’ll get a bit more success, but Leicester have some good options there too.”

Harry Sherlock

“James would be a sensible signing for Leicester but he’s not likely to play all that much, is he? Pereira is absolutely the first-choice right-back at the King Power Stadium and one has to feel that James needs to play in order to fulfil his exceptional potential. Likewise, if Youri Tielemans returns after his loan move, it’s hard to see James starting over the Belgian or Wilfred N’Didi. He’s a really good player but he needs more than a handful of appearances every season.”

Manchester United: Heed Rooney’s advice if club want to improve long-term

It’s not exactly rocket science, but Wayne Rooney has urged his former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to target young players rather than established superstars in this summer’s transfer window.

New boss Solskjaer has a very busy summer ahead of him as he looks to improve on the disastrous end of the season which saw them win just two in 12 games, having inherited the throne from big spender Jose Mourinho in December – a man who broke United’s transfer record on Paul Pogba.

Up to 60 players (and counting) have been linked with moves to Old Trafford already this summer, but Rooney has advised a change in tact from the sort of strategy the club have seemingly used in recent years.

“For Ole, I think the first thing he’s got to do is try and build the squad,” the DC United forward told BBC Radio Five Live (via ESPN Sport). “I don’t think bringing one or two players in for over £100 million is going to really help with the squad and the players who are there.

“I think he needs to try and look at maybe five or six players who have got potential to be top players but you’re not spending £120m-£130m on these players.

“I think you spend £30m-£40m and then try to improve them, which will also give you longevity out of the players and allow you to build a squad around the five or six new players that come in, plus a few of the players who are still there.

“You could bring [Cristiano] Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and [Lionel] Messi in, or Gareth Bale, for instance, and it’s going to cost you £300m-£350m which you’d get what? Maybe two years out of Ronaldo, a couple of years out of Ramos and then you’ve written that money off.”

It’s nothing we haven’t heard before, but there’s a very good reason why the same old sentiment keeps on cropping up.

Just look at January 2018 signing Alexis Sanchez, who currently sits pretty on around £500k per week – despite only providing five goals and nine assists, barely value for money.

What has he provided that a youngster like James Maddison, who’s tipped to join United (per the Independent) this summer, couldn’t? Surely it’s worth a shot.

It’s about time Manchester United go back to their roots of signing young promising players before they slip even further down the table. Indeed, as someone who so clearly understands the club as much as Rooney, perhaps the fanbase would start to feel a touch more connected to the club after sections of them fumed at Ed Woodward towards the end of the season.

Manchester United fans, do you agree with Rooney? Is it about time you changed your philosophy? Let us know in the comments below…

Manchester United fans stunned as Fred linked with AS Roma

[ad_pod ]

Having snubbed Pep Guardiola and the chance to join Premier League champions Manchester City to move to Old Trafford, big things were expected of Brazilian midfielder Fred.

The 26-year-old joined Manchester United for a fee in the region of £52m last summer, but failed to really show the kind of form that convinced the Red Devils hierarchy to shell out a big sum of money for him.

And now according to Italian publication Il Romanista, Serie A giants AS Roma are considering ending his English football nightmare and reuniting him with his former boss at Shakhtar Donetsk, Paulo Fonseca, who is hoping for a loan move.

Despite his inconsistent form for the club though, many United fans took to Twitter to reveal their shock at Fred’s potential departure and labelled it “ridiculous” that the club would contemplate loaning him out after just one season.

Could Harry Maguire be on his way to Old Trafford? Check out the video below to see why it would make so much sense…

Indeed, many seemed to think that the last campaign could be seen as a transition period for him and that United would see the best out of the Brazil international in the upcoming years.

Some pointed out that Fred’s best performances for the club came in the Champions League where the pace of the game is notoriously different to the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, and urged United to keep the faith.

Check out some of the stunned reaction of United fans to the news Fred could be loaned out:
