According to France Football (via Sport Witness), Everton have identified Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka as a potential replacement for Idrissa Gueye, whilst Mainz’s Jean-Philippe Gbamin is also on their list of candidates.

The Toffees are reportedly looking to sign four or five players before the deadline on August 8, with Marcel Brands set to be a busy man as a right-back, winger and striker are targeted whilst the pursuit of Kurt Zouma goes on.

Amongst those four or five players being targeted by the Merseysiders is a replacement for Gueye, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £30m on Tuesday, and it seems as if Lobotka and Gbamin are the two names on the shortlist.

Whilst Gbamin seems like a fairly decent option to replace the Senegal international, Lobotka simply cannot be considered as a replacement for Gueye as his statistics are nowhere near that of the PSG new boy’s.

For a start, Gueye recorded 4.3 tackles per game and 2.2 interceptions per game across his 33 starts in the Premier League last term, as well as 1.3 clearances per game.

Lobotka is being considered as his replacement and is naturally a defensive midfielder, but his stats are quite simply nowhere near Gueye’s.

The Slovakian averaged just one tackle per game in La Liga last season, along with 0.8 interceptions and 0.5 clearances across 31 league appearances.

It doesn’t take a genius to realise that those numbers are substantially worse than Gueye’s from a defensive viewpoint, and that if Everton seriously view him as a potential replacement, they should probably give their heads a bit of a wobble.

Admittedly, Gueye was an excellent player in his position and few players got near his numbers – he recorded more tackles on average than any other player in the Premier League last term.

But having said that, there must be better options out there for Everton instead of the far inferior 24-year-old.

According to The Daily Record, Celtic are set to open talks with Kristoffer Ajer over a new deal.

What’s the story?

Despite him being under contract until the end of the 2021/22 season, Neil Lennon wants to offer his Norwegian defender fresh terms.

The centre-back has been the subject of interest from Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City and European heavyweights AC Milan this summer, which has perhaps instigated the club’s desire to extend his deal.

The Hoops are aware of the interest in their star but want him to be a mainstay in the side for years to come. The 21-year-old is one of the ‘untouchables’ in Lennon’s squad.

Having become one of the key players under Lennon, Ajer could demand a top wage at the club, particularly as they can’t offer him Champions League football this season.

Get it done

The Celts boss is right about Ajer’s importance to his side, the centre-back has so much potential and is presumably one of the first-choice pairing when fit, given his status as ‘untouchable’.

It’s a tricky time to be the club’s defensive leader too. With so much change around him, there’s the distinct possibility he could be the longest-serving player in the first-choice backline come September 2 and the closure of the transfer window.

That’s providing he’s still at the club. While the prospect of joining Rodgers in the Premier League is put back until January at least, the same can’t be said for Milan. Their window is still open for a week so tying him down to new terms will hopefully put them off an expensive signing in the wake of being booted out of European football.

A new contract would also give everyone at the club a much-needed boost. The defeat to Cluj has left the support upset and the sale of fan-favourite Kieran Tierney has left plenty dejected too, so tying down an exciting talent to a long-term deal would be a worthwhile PR exercise.

More important than appeasing the fans, giving Ajer a new contract would secure the Parkhead future of one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe.

Rafa Benitez has picked out one current Liverpool player he wishes he could have had in his 2008/09 title-chasing team, and it may be a surprising choice for some.

What’s been said?

Benitez admits that the level of the current Liverpool squad is above any team he managed whilst at Anfield, as last season’s points tally of 97 indicates, although like Jurgen Klopp the Spaniard did lead the club to a second-place finish and a Champions League trophy, albeit not in the same season.

Liverpool finished four points short of Manchester United’s 90 point total in 2009 despite beating the Red Devils home and away.

Interestingly, despite only conceding 27 goals in the Premier League that season, Benitez picked out a defender when asked which player he would take from the current Liverpool side.

In a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “Van Dijk, he would help. Not because the others are not good enough but because in this position he is maybe the best at the moment.

“We had [Fernando] Torres and [Steven] Gerrard so we had lots of good attacking players, but as centre backs, although I was really pleased with my players, Van Dijk is maybe playing at another level now.”

It is a more understandable choice when one considers Liverpool finished as the league’s highest goal-scorers that year with 77 goals but drew 11 times that season, including games against Wigan away and Hull at home.

Has Benitez made the correct choice?

Benitez has built up a reputation in England as being a defensive-minded manager, but in each of his six seasons in charge on Merseyside Liverpool never conceded the least of any team, and therefore van Dijk seems like a suitable option for the 59-year-old to pick.

The Dutchman has not only improved the current Liverpool defence but he has been a great leader for the squad, and as soon as he arrived Liverpool’s attitude and performances became that of a top-level team, as evidenced by their achievements last season.

In 2008/09 Liverpool had a similar figure in Jamie Carragher, who featured in every league match, but Benitez lacked a reliable partner to play alongside him – with Sami Hyppia and Daniel Agger rotating – and that is where a player such as van Dijk would have benefited the team.

Despite that, it is impossible to ignore the impact a player like Mo Salah would likely have had on that Liverpool side – the threat last season’s joint-Golden Boot winner would have provided from the wing would likely have given Liverpool the extra edge they needed to find those four points to win the title.

وتحدث أشيمبونج عن الأزمة في تصريحات لشبكة “بي بي سي سبورت أفريقيا”، وقال: “لم أحصل على أي أموال من الزمالك، أحاول أن أحصل على حقي لإطعام أسرتي، لا يمكنهم معاملة الناس مثل الحيوانات، نحن بشر وقدمت كل شيء للفريق”.

وتابع: “في عام 2018، عندما انضممت إلى بتروجيت على سبيل الإعارة، تم خداعي بالتوقيع على وثيقة تنص على أنه لن يتنازل فقط عن راتبه في الزمالك خلال فترة الإعارة ولكن عن كل عقده، بجرة قلم واحدة تخلى عن غير قصد عن أكثر من مليون دولار”.

وأضاف: “لا أحد سيفعل ذلك، الشيء الوحيد الذي وقعت عليه هو عقد انتقالي إلى بتروجيت وأن الأخير هو من سيدفع راتبي عن الأشهر التي سألعبها في صفوفه على سبيل الإعارة”.

في ديسمبر الماضي، أعلن الزمالك عن تسوية جميع مستحقات أشيمبونج بعدما وافق الغاني على قبول 250 ألف دولار فقط من إجمالي مستحقاته، ولكن اللاعب قد نفى ذلك وأكد أن نادر السيد لم يعد يمثله كوكيل في مصر وهو من كان يتفاوض مع الزمالك، رغم نفي حارس منتخب مصر السابق وتأكيد على صحة أوراقه بل يمتلك نسبة 20% من إجمالي المبلغ المستحق بعد التسوية بين اللاعب والنادي.

وعلق المدير القانوني في اتحاد اللاعبين المحترفين “Fifpro”، روي فيرمير، أن من غير المعقول أن يحصل اللاعب على تعويض أكثر من مليون دولار ويقبل بعد أقل من أسبوعين بتسوية بأقل من 25% من إجمالي المبلغ.

ووجه أشيمبونج رسالة إلى الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم بشأن الأزمة، وقال: “يجب أن يُعاقب الزمالك، رغم أنني كنت سعيدًا للغاية بالانتقال إليهم في عام 2017 لأن انضمامك لمثل هذا الفريق يدل على أنك لاعب كبير”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “لقد تم تجميدي من حضور تدريبات الفريق الأول وتدربت مع الناشئين بدلًا من ذلك، وهو ما نفاه الزمالك، لكنهم حاولوا التأثير على من أجل إحباطي ومطالبتي بفسخ عقدي لكنني انتظرت لأنني أعرف أن القوانين في صالحي وإذا لم أحصل على عقدي لمدة 3 أشهر، يحكم الفيفا بأنني لاعب حر يحق لي الرحيل”.

واستمر: “كانت هناك اتفاقية قد وقعت عليها في عام 2018، أقر فيها بأنني تلقيت كل أموالي وممتلكاتي من الزمالك، وإذا لم أفعل ذلك لن يوافقوا على إرسال عقودي من أجل الانتقال إلى أي نادٍ آخر، فكيف لي أن أطعم أطفالي وكل أموالي التي ادخرتها قد صُرفت في تلك الفترة لعدم حصولي على أي راتب من النادي”، ولكن هذه الاتفاقية قد تم بطلانها من المحكمة الرياضية وأكدت أن الغاني قد وقع على تلك الوثيقة في ظروف صعبة.

وعلق أشيمبونج على علاقته مع نادر السيد، وقال: “لم أقابله منذ عام 2018، فأين التقيت به لأتفق معه حول التسوية؟، ليس لدي أي فكرة عما يفعله نادر السيد والزمالك ولم أوقع على أي وثائق مع الزمالك والتي قدمها للفيفا دليلًا على انتهاء الأزمة”.

بينما يؤكد نادر السيد في تصريحات للشبكة الشهيرة: “أشيمبونج موكلي منذ عام 2016، وحتى الآن وجميع الاتفاقيات والتفويضات رسمية وموثقة”.

وأتم الغاني حديثه وقال: “لقد قررت أن أخوض المعركة حتى النهاية من أجل جميع اللاعبين الذين يعانون من المشكلة، على الرغم من أنني أشعر بالوحدة بالعيش في القاهرة وعائلتي في ألمانيا، لكن يجب أن يقاتل كل لاعب من أجل الحصول على حقوقهم لأن هذا ما نفعله للبقاء على قيد الحياة”.

الجدير بالذكر أن المادة 15 من لائحة الفيفا الخاصة بحقوق اللاعبين تنص أنه سيتم إعلان حظر نادي الزمالك من إبرام أي صفقة جديدة حتى يتم دفع المبلغ المستحق بالكامل، ويجوز أيضًا طلب خصم نقاط أو الهبوط لدرجة أقل”، وهذا ما ستناقشه لجنة الانضباط بالاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم يوم غدًا، الخميس.

A lot can happen in the last breaths of the transfer window and they are often the most thrilling days of the entire market.

And according to Mundo Deportivo, a rather interesting proposal was made to Barcelona around two weeks before the window shut. The report claims they got a call from Juventus who were reportedly offering them Federico Bernardeschi in exchange for the services of Ivan Rakitic.

But there was a catch: they also wanted an additional €23m (£20.6m) from the Catalans, so Blaugrana, rather understandably, promptly rejected that offer.

As soon as Barcelona fans found out about that reported deal, many of them quickly jumped to Twitter and social media in order to voice their amusement over the proposed offer.

Many of them seem to think that the offer was just laughable and that Barcelona made the right choice by rejecting it.
