Aston Villa look set to move on two longstanding scouts in a major reshuffle behind the scenes, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Villa’s major spending plans

Villa spent over £90m during the current campaign on five permanent transfers, and it looks as if another spending spree is on the way at Villa Park.

Owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris have pumped around £400m into the club since taking over in 2018, and according to Football Insider back in March, they will spend big this summer in a bid to keep hold of club captain Jack Grealish.

The Latest: Friday meeting planned

According to Football Insider, Mick Brown and Alan Wood are set to leave the club.

A Villa source revealed that both Brown and Wood have been told to attend a meeting at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training headquarters on Friday.

The report described the likely parting ways of Brown and Wood as a surprise, with the pair working on potential signings under sporting director Johan Lange.

The Verdict: A bold move

It’s safe to say that Villa’s spending during the 2020/21 campaign has been a lot better than their 2019/20 business.

The likes of Ollie Watkins, Matty Cash and Emiliano Martinez have been revelations under Dean Smith, although the loan signing of Ross Barkley hasn’t really worked out.

However, a number of the arrivals in the 19/20 season have either been injured for large parts of their stay or struggled on the pitch – Wesley Moraes, Tom Heaton, Mbwana Samatta, Bjorn Engels and Jota spring to mind.

It seems as if Villa have their heart set on an off-field revamp, though, which could have real significance to Lange going forward.

Na noite de terça, torcedores da equipe colombiana andaram pelas ruas de Medellín com cantos de exaltação à Chape. Nesta quarta, na hora em que a partida seria realizada, a torcida do Nacional fará uma vigília no Atanasio Girardot, palco em que a final seria disputada.

Plenty of Aston Villa supporters have praised Matt Targett on social media for his performance against Crystal Palace on Sunday lunchtime.

Dean Smith made four changes from the side which drew 0-0 with Everton on Thursday evening, with Ahmed Elmohamady, Kourtney Hause, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins coming in for Matty Cash, Tyrone Mings, Ross Barkley and Keinan Davis respectively.

Targett kept up his record of starting in every league game this season, and his display at Selhurst Park impressed a number of Villa fans. The 25-year-old has missed just 15 minutes of top-flight action this season and was a part of a changed Villa defence alongside Elmohamady, Hause and Ezri Konsa.

The left-back was coming up against Palace winger Andros Townsend in the capital and completed a number of accurate long balls against Roy Hodgson’s side, posing a considerable threat with some neat deliveries.

Sunderland have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of their upcoming play-off semi-final clash on Saturday.

What’s the latest?

Speaking prior to the second leg of the Black Cats’ League One play-off semi-final against Lincoln City, Lee Johnson confirmed that both Denver Hume and Conor McLaughlin would be unavailable for selection due to injury.

Left-back Hume was withdrawn because of an issue with his hamstring just 10 minutes into the first leg of the tie and will not recover in time for today, while right-back McLaughlin has a stress fracture of the back which has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

As cited by Chronicle Live, Johnson said: “Denver has a hamstring injury. It’s disappointing, and it’s happened on too many occasions to different players this season. And Conor is out for the season with a stress fracture of the back.”

Huge blow

Despite Johnson only taking over at Sunderland late last year, the 39-year-old has already had to deal with a quite extraordinary amount of injuries during his relatively short time at the club.

A large portion of these setbacks have occurred to the Black Cats’ defenders, such as the loss of centre-back Dion Sanderson, who returned to Wolves after being ruled out for the rest of the season, and fellow centre-back Jordan Willis, who looks set to be sidelined for 12 months because of a recurring knee injury.

As such, the news that both Hume and McLaughlin are now also unavailable for the visit of Lincoln on Saturday is likely to come as a devastating blow for the former Bristol City manager, particularly as his side are aiming to overturn a 2-0 defeat from the first leg of the play-off semi-final tie.

Dean Smith could help build a dream future at Aston Villa by signing Bournemouth’s exciting starlet Ajani Burchall.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks and months have suggested that Dean Smith’s side are one of a number of teams including the likes of fellow Premier League clubs Leeds and Arsenal who are eyeing up a summer move for the 16-year-old.

Now, Burchall himself has confirmed that he will be leaving the Cherries this summer via his official Instagram page, and thereby opening the door to a move to Villa Park.

With Villa’s academy side in the FA Youth Cup final, it’s no surprise that the club have got a number of stand-out young players, not least Carney Chukwuemeka.

The 16-year-old Cherries starlet can play on either flank, and is clearly already making big impressions at the club having already made his senior debut for them.

In fact, Burchall’s teammate at Bournemouth, Steve Cook, said after his first-team debut for the club: “You could see how special a player he is. His first involvement was checked his shoulder, cut across a player and won his foul. For a 16-year-old, that awareness, that knowhow, I think the club have produced a really good player.

Alvo do São Paulo para a temporada 2017, o atacante paraguaio Christian Colmán, de 22 anos, tem procurado se manter alheio à negociação. Ele garantiu que ainda não foi procurado pelo Tricolor, tampouco recebeu algum comunicado do Nacional (PAR), seu clube atualmente. No entanto, o centroavante que atraiu atenção do técnico Rogério Ceni se anima com a possibilidade de jogar no Morumbi, como falou em entrevista ao LANCE!.

– Não falei nada com os clubes, vi apenas pela imprensa, mas claro que fico feliz por ter meu nome citado e por ser um grande clube. Se for realmente concreto isso que estão falando, seria ótimo, é uma grande equipe. Claro que eu gostaria de jogar no futebol brasileiro, é uma liga muito competitiva. Mas realmente ainda não sei de nada – afirmou o atacante, em rápido contato por telefone.

Colmán tem contrato com o Nacional até dezembro de 2018. Este ano, em 30 jogos, marcou 11 gols. Está prestes a entrar de férias, já que o campeonato paraguaio está na última rodada. O Nacional não foi bem e está em 7º. O Guarani já é campeão.

Alto (1,85m) e com facilidade para atuar dentro da área, Colmán foi achado pelo São Paulo a partir do departamento de análise de desempenho, dos profissionais Luis Felipe Batista e Raony Thadeu, a quem Rogério Ceni fez referência em sua apresentação na semana passada. A dupla preparou um pacote com vídeos do atacante, que agradou ao novo treinador. A partir daí, o nome foi encaminhado à diretoria, que já negocia. Um camisa 9 é uma das prioridades de Ceni para 2017.

A cúpula do São Paulo, no entanto, adota cautela sobre a negociação. No último domingo, após a goleada de 5 a 0 sobre o Santa Cruz no Pacaembu, o presidente Carlos Augusto de Barros e silva disse que não tinha nada para falar da negociação. Já o diretor-executivo Marco Aurélio Cunha admitiu que Colmán é um dos nomes analisados, mas disse que como ele há outros tantos.

Até o momento, o São Paulo apresentou o atacante Wellington Nem, emprestado do Shakhtar Donetsk (UCR) e tem acordo com o goleiro Sidão, que disputou o Brasileiro pelo Botafogo, mas tem direitos ligados ao Osasco Audax. O acerto deve ser oficializado em breve.
