IPL postpones hearing against bowler as well

The committee set up by PCB to look into Mohammad Asif’s detention at Dubai airport from June 1-19 for alleged possession of an illegal substance has completed its investigation.The committee comprising PCB officials Shaqfat Naghmi [chief operating officer], Zakir Khan [director – cricket operations], and Nadeem Akram [director – human resources] had been asked to acquire all the documents related to the case, establish facts, and after a complete investigation, submit a report to Nasim Ashraf, the outgoing PCB chairman, which would be sent to the ICC as well.”We have completed our work and now it’s up to the new chairman to decide on our recommendations,” Naghmi told on Friday.Naghmi did not divulge the details regarding the findings of the investigating committee.”We have given some recommendations in our findings and only the chairman has the authority to take a decision,” he said. With PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf having stepped down from his position on August 18, the new chairman is expected to be named only after Pakistan’s presidential elections on September 6.The Indian Premier League (IPL) has, in the meantime, agreed to Mohammad Asif’s request to postpone the preliminary hearing for testing positive for nandrolone. The hearing was originally scheduled for Saturday.”We had sent them an e-mail requesting for the hearing to be later in mid-September as we are still waiting for some more documentation on the case regarding the procedures adopted to conduct the dope tests on Asif in the IPL,” Asif’s lawyer, Shahid Karim, told . “We have today got a reply from them saying the hearing will not be held on August 30 and they will inform us of a date later on.”Asif was suspended by the PCB from all forms of the game pending the result of the IPL inquiry. He previously tested positive for nandrolone just before the 2006 Champions Trophy in India. Though he was banned for one year by a PCB tribunal, the punishment was overturned a month later on appeal.

– Um atacante sempre pensa em terminar como artilheiro da equipe no ano, mas não tenho isso na minha mente diretamente. Procuro ajudar a equipe com gols, nunca fui um atacante com média muito alta. Eu falo que o Rodriguinho é centroavante também, porque está sempre fazendo gols. Pretendo terminar na frente dele (risos), mas tranquilo se não acontecer. É uma briga sadia e o Corinthians sai ganhando com isso – brinca.

Jô, por sua vez, também mira a artilharia geral do Brasileirão, algo que o Corinthians nunca teve em sua história. O atacante diz que está na disputa, mas destaca que a concorrência é grande no campeonato.

– Atacante se não falar de artilharia às vezes é complicado, fica meio chato, mas procuro fazer meu trabalho. Claro que com gols você vai se destacando e colocando um objetivo pessoal. Para mim seria uma honra ser o artilheiro do Brasileiro, mas tem atacantes de respeito, goleadores natos que respeito muito, como o Fred e Luis Fabiano. Mas quero chegar alto, sim – analisa.

Se depender da média que teve nos primeiros dois jogos, com um gol em cada, Jô com certeza brigará pela artilharia do Brasileirão. Ainda mais com a ajuda do parceiro e rival Rodriguinho.

The Lowdown: Delays

According to The Chronicle, the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) claim over the stalled takeover deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group has now been delayed until September.

This follows the delay of the separate arbitration case filed by the St. James’ Park faithful against the Premier League over their decision-making process with regards to the failed bid, which is now not due to take place until early next year.

The Latest: Takeover insight

Writing in his latest piece for Newcastle World, Kennedy has shared that the proposed takeover in the North East by the KSA consortium is now ‘hanging by a thread’, according to sources.

It is thought that the recent legal delays have potentially further strained relationships, and the parties involved in the consortium are said to be shocked at the news that the arbitration hearing has been delayed until early 2022.

The Verdict: Worrying

It is certainly worrying to hear that the proposed takeover could well be on the cusp of collapse, especially given the constant delays that the consortium have had to face.

Manchester City have been boosted by the recent news that Liam Delap has signed a new long-term contract, which should keep him at the Etihad until 2026.

What’s the word?

After a phenomenal season with the U23s, it is no surprise that City have worked quickly to tie Delap down for the long-term, as he looks destined to have a huge future in the game.

The Citizens announced on Friday that the 18-year-old had penned a new deal until 2026, which will no doubt delight Pep Guardiola, as he now has a player to put into the first team in the near future.

The Spanish manager had suggested earlier in the summer that Delap would become part of the first-team squad at City this season, although he has been heavily linked with a loan move to the Championship, despite City having thus far failed to replace Sergio Aguero.

A boost for Guardiola?

Considering Delap’s sensational form with the academy sides since joining from Derby County in 2019, there seems little to suggest that the teenager can’t be a regular with the Citizens in the future.

Last season saw the striker contribute 24 goals in 20 Premier League 2 games, firing City to that title, whilst he also scored on his professional debut in City’s 2-1 win against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.

When speaking about Millwall’s interest in signing Delap on loan, manager Gary Rowett was quick to sing his praises, saying:

“Liam Delap, quite simply, is the best young striker around at the moment and every single Championship club, I’m sure, would be interested in taking him. Of course, we’d be interested. But, at the same time, I’m sure everyone would be interested in him.”

Therefore, it is undoubtedly a boost that he has committed himself to City, and everyone involved with the club will surely be excited to see more of him in the future.

O Leão contou com três gols do atacante André e um do zagueiro Matheus Ferraz. Fernandinho, duas vezes, e Rafael Thyere marcaram para o Tricolor.

O time pernambucano chegou aos quatro pontos na tabela. BLITZ GREMISTA

O Grêmio não deu ouvidos ao prognóstico de que o Sport se aproveitaria do fator casa e do visitante enfraquecido, e partiu para cima, mas de forma avassaladora. Logo aos dois, Everton exigiu boa defesa de Magrão e dois minutos depois o placar já estava aberto, com Fernandinho. Ele recebeu um rebote de chute de Everton, driblou o estreante Anselmo e marcou.

Não demorou muito para o Tricolor ampliar. Aos 16, Rafael Thyere marcou de voleio, na pequena área, após Machado cruzar e Jailson desviar: 2 a 0. O placar poderia até estar maior se Bressan não tivesse impedido quatro minutos antes. Ele marcou de cabeça após cruzamento de Machado, mas o tento foi bem anulado.

ANDRÉ DESENCANTA

Passada a blitz Tricolor, o Grêmio relaxou e o Sport cresceu no jogo, mas nada que fizesse brilhar os olhos do torcedor leonino. O Rubro-Negro até descontou com André, aos 33. O atacante recebeu ótimo cruzamento de Fabrício, se antecipou a Thyere e, de cabeça, voltou a marcar após cinco jogos. O agitado primeiro tempo ainda teve um chute de Everton Felipe, que exigiu ótima defesa de Leo, e um bate-boca entre Rogério e Rithely.

SPORT VOLTA MELHOR

A etapa complementar também começou com uma blitz. Essa, porém, rubro-negra. Aos 14, uma boa chegada com Lenis e três minutos depois Fabrício cobrou falta venenosa. O gol de empate parecia maduro. E assim foi feito. Na chegada seguinte, ele veio:Everton Felipe cruzou, Matheus Ferraz ganhou de Thyere e empatou.

O Grêmio sentiu o gol, mas também sentiu a falta de ritmo de jogo. O resultado disso? Um Sport ainda mais incisivo e um Tricolor querendo logo o término do jogo. Mas ainda era cedo. Tão cedo, que ainda deu tempo da virada, aos 28, com André. Marquinhos tocou para trás e encontrou André.

O camisa 90 ainda faria mais um, aos 38. Ele recebeu de Marquinhos, venceu na dividida com Pepê e ampliou: 4 a 2. O mesmo Pepê se ‘redimiu’ na sequência sofrendo pênalti. Fernandinho converteu. And Ghai believes Kenya’s domestic structure is a key factor in their current decline in form.”Our domestic cricket is at the lowest ebb ever,” he said. “We know what is wrong but we are not seeking a remedy. Instead we are naming task-forces to investigate the circumstances. Dwayne Yearwood and Nikolai Charles are the new faces in the squad.Haynes, 27, was part of Barbados’ first-class campaign last season but hasn’t played List A games since 2004. “It’s an honour and a privilege,” Haynes told the Barbados-based . “It is a job that I can [get] accustomed to. I know there are going to be high expectations but I am confident I can deal with the pressure.” Haynes was also part of the Guyana President’s XI that played a warm-up game against the touring Sri Lankans earlier this year.Tino Best, the former West Indies fast bowler who played for ICL, will also turn out for Barbados in place of Kemar Roach, called up to the West Indies squad. “Best was with us for just one season,” an ICL spokesperson said.Corey Collymore, who led Barbados last season, will play as the side’s leading fast bowler along with Pedro Collins; the two mediumpacers are Kolpak players in the England county circuit and though they can’t play for West Indies, they can represent Barbados at the regional level.
