Chasing Italy’s modest 185 for 9, Cush and Orlando Baker were in a hurry as they rattled up a 102-run stand in only 11 overs. Cush was dropped by Dilan Fernando off his own bowling off the first ball of the fourth over. He responded by pulling the next ball to the fine-leg boundary. A six over midwicket followed off the fifth ball and USA were on their way. Fernando was hit out of the attack, conceding 26 runs in three overs. The other bowlers did not fare better as Cush and Baker kept the onslaught going. Cush took 18 runs off a Hemantha Jayasena over, hitting him for a four and consecutive sixes.Baker was dismissed by Peter Petricola after making 40 off 34 deliveries with six fours and a six. But there was no stopping Cush as he brought up his hundred in the 17th over. He was finally dismissed with the score on 166 after smashing 101 off only 57 deliveries with 14 fours and four sixes. Captain Steve Massiah was unbeaten on 28 off 26 deliveries, steering USA to victory in 21.4 overs.Italy, who had chosen to bat, had started poorly, as Kevin Darlington struck twice to reduce them to 16 for 2. Adrian Gordon then removed the middle order taking 4 for 35, and Italy were reduced to 116 for 8 despite Petricola’s fighting 42. Gayashan Munasinghe and Roshendra Abeywickrama added 51 runs in a ninth-wicket stand that enabled Italy to reach a fighting total. However, given the mood Cush was in, the target of 186 was never going to trouble USA.Meanwhile, USA wicketkeeper Carl Wright has been reprimanded by the ICC match referee David Jukes for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. By the time he was out, only 81 runs were needed with 33 overs remaining. Saheed Mohamed and Ryan Bovell needed only 75 deliveries to knock off those runs. Mohamed was unbeaten on 42 off 44 deliveries while Bovell remained unbeaten on 33 off 37.Argentina had earlier struggled to 182 for 9, having elected to bat. Opener Carlos Gibson steadied the innings with a patient 45 off 116 deliveries but Argentina were badly hit after he had to leave the field due to an injury. Three run-outs didn’t help their cause either. Several batsmen got starts but failed to convert as Cayman Islands kept things tight.

As per Gissing, Southampton are now in the mix for promising centre-back Colwill – who is currently enjoying a fruitful spell on loan at Huddersfield Town.

He explained (via Twitter): “Levi Colwill has interest from many clubs including Leicester, Fulham, Southampton, Everton, Huddersfield (if promoted) & European clubs

“Chelsea will assess Levi in pre-season and make a final decision there.”

The Verdict: Make a move?

The 19-year-old, a key player for The Terriers over his temporary stint, has certainly impressed those around the club.

Steven Chicken for example, a Huddersfield Town reporter for Yorkshire Live (via Chelsea Loan Army), branded Colwill ‘sensational from day one’ and ‘flawless’ since joining.

The England Under-19 international has been a mainstay under Town boss Carlos Corberán, making 26 Championship appearances this season and even pitching in with two goals (Transfermarkt).

Widely regarded as a top emerging talent, Colwill can be deployed at left-back as well as in the centre of defence, potentially backing why the Saints hold a firm interest.

Amid all the competition, perhaps Southampton’s past dealings with Chelsea could put them above other clubs in the pecking order.

It looks almost certain that Connor Goldson will leave Rangers and return to England, The Daily Record’s Gavin Berry writes. 

The lowdown

Goldson’s £27,000-per-week contract is due to expire in just seven weeks’ time.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson insisted around two months ago that the club were ‘not resigned to losing’ the centre-back.

Robertson said that sporting director Ross Wilson engages in ‘regular conversations’ with soon-to-be-out-of-contract players, but it appears that those talks have not proven to be fruitful.

Goldson has made 213 appearances for the Gers since joining from Brighton in 2018, scoring 20 goals and helping them win their first Scottish Premiership title since 2011.

Berry reported on Monday morning that, barring a ‘dramatic’ turnaround, Goldson will ‘almost certainly’ be moving south of the border.

The verdict

The Scottish Daily Express claimed that Goldson would be open to extending his stay if they qualified for the Champions League.

But after a 2-1 home defeat against title rivals Celtic, they’ve fallen six points off the pace, potentially handing the Hoops both the crown and UCL qualification. Rangers, then, may have spurned a chance to keep Goldson.

They can still qualify by winning the Europa League, but teams like RB Leipzig, Atalanta and Barcelona could all stand in their way, even if they overturn the 1-0 deficit against Braga.

وكان هاري كين أحد القادة الذين قرروا ارتداء شارة ملونة، خلال مباريات مونديال قطر، في إشارة منهم لدعم المثلية رغم رفض الدولة المضيفة للأمر.

تعرضت قطر لانتقادات شديدة طوال فترة الاستعداد للبطولة الكبرى، التي تنطلق يوم الأحد، بسبب موقفها من العلاقات المثلية.

عادةً ما يحظر فيفا استخدام الشعارات أو الرسائل السياسية خلال البطولات، كما أصدر بيانًا مؤخرًا يطالب من خلاله اللاعبين بالتركيز على لعب كرة القدم فقط دون غيرها.

وقال الرئيس التنفيذي للاتحاد الإنجليزي مارك بولينجهام لشبكة “سكاي سبورتس” العالمية، إن الاتحاد أرسل طلبًا إلى فيفا يطلب فيه ارتداء شارة قيادة ملونة قبل شهرين، على الرغم من أن فيفا لم يرد بعد.

Cricinfo staff01-Sep-2010Kevin Pietersen has apologised for the foul-mouthed Twitter outburst that followed his omission from England’s one-day squad for the forthcoming series against Pakistan, and has set his sights on rediscovering his form during a two-and-a-half week loan spell with Surrey that gets underway with a floodlit CB40 fixture at The Oval on Wednesday night.Pietersen accidentally broke the ECB’s squad announcement embargo on Tuesday afternoon when he posted a message to his Twitter feed declaring: “Done for rest of summer!! Man of the World Cup T20 and dropped from the T20 side too. Its a f**k up!!” Though the message was swiftly deleted, it was inevitably picked up by several of his 38,000 “followers” and circulated around the internet.”It came out in a way I obviously didn’t want it to come out,” Pietersen told Surreycricket.tv. “The Twitter thing was a direct message – as anyone who is on Twitter knows, you can send direct messages to your friends, or whoever’s following you and you follow them – so I must apologise that it ended up in the public domain, and also apologise for the language I used in it. I would never ever swear on Twitter when going out into the public domain, so this is a big apology, and now it’s a case of looking forward what is going to be an exciting couple of weeks.”Although Pietersen was not best pleased at being dropped, he insisted the anger had been a spur-of-the-moment reaction, and that he fully understood the reasons for the selectors’ decision, after he struggled to a tally of 140 runs in the four-Test series against Pakistan, with a top-score of 80 at Edgbaston that involved at least four clear-cut chances.”It was just a mistake,” he reiterated. “I hold nothing against the England selectors and the England set-up at all, I was just pretty upset and frustrated with my own form. Since making his England Test debut in July 2005, Pietersen has featured in a solitary county four-day fixture, for Hampshire against Somerset at Taunton in May 2008, and he himself admitted that the opportunity for a low-key stint in first-class cricket would be invaluable.”Any opportunity in the middle is an opportunity I’ll grab with both hands, but the two four-day games will be ideal for my preparations,” he said. “It’s understandable that the selectors would like me to play some four-day cricket, because since my Achilles injury the only four-day cricket I’ve played have been Test matches, and it’s pretty difficult to sort your game when you go into a Test match set-up, if you’re not playing at the top of your game. It will be a wonderful opportunity to get back into nick and get ready for a very exciting winter.”
