Pés no chão!

Celtic in talks for Carter-Vickers deal

Celtic have a handful of games left before they could potentially get their hands on the SPFL trophy.

And, after the significant overhaul that took place at Celtic Park during the summer transfer window, it seems as though a clue has emerged over one potential deal that could be completed this time around.

What’s the news?

According to a recent report by SBI, a Celtic source has revealed that the Bhoys are in advanced talks with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur regarding the permanent transfer of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The Hoops signed the centre-back on a loan deal from the north London outfit in August of last year.

Since then, the 24-year-old has been a key cog for Ange Postecoglou and his side this season, playing 41 games across all competitions for the Bhoys.

In the SPFL, only Joe Hart and Carl Starfelt have played more minutes than Carter-Vickers, showing just how highly Postecoglou rates him.

The £22k-per-week American has also shown on the pitch why he’s been picked so many times, particularly with his defensive capabilities.

For example, no other Celtic player has been able to rack up a higher average of clearances per league game (4.2) than the Spurs loanee.

Also, with a combined total of 55 tackles and interceptions, the centre-back has undoubtedly contributed a lot to the fact that Celtic have the best defensive record in the league, with just 19 goals conceded.

Postecoglou will be buzzing

His overall performances in the league have earned the defender a rating of 7.36, making him the fourth-highest rated player in Postecoglou’s squad.

Labelled as an “immense” talent by Chris Sutton, it’s easy to see why the Parkhead club would be keen to secure the player down to a permanent deal in the summer.

Moving forward, if the Bhoys were able to seal a deal with Tottenham that would see Carter-Vickers become a permanent Celtic player, this would undoubtedly get their summer business off to a great start – not to mention being something that would leave the manager buzzing.

Indeed, if the Hoops are able to secure the league title and then sign the defender permanently, this would surely delight a lot of fans and give the team a great chance of being successful in their next campaign.

Ladda, Badrinath lead India Green to easy win

India Green’s bowlers, led by Punjab legspinner Sarabjit Ladda, set up a comfortable six-wicket victory against India Red in Indore

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
India Green’s bowlers, led by Punjab legspinner Sarabjit Ladda, set up a comfortable six-wicket victory against India Red in Indore. After the bowlers had dismissed India Red for 185, S Badrinath led the chase with a fluent half-century as his team won with 13 overs to spare.Ladda and Rajasthan fast bowler Pankaj Singh had shared seven wickets between them as India Red collapsed from 106 for 2 to 185 all out. They were earlier off to a poor start after electing to bat when Manish Pandey was trapped leg before by Dhawal Kulkarni in the third over. Parthiv Patel was looking solid at the other end as he drove and cut the seamers for boundaries. However, Pankaj struck a big blow when he had Virat Kohli caught behind for 7.Then followed the best partnership of the innings between Patel and Dinesh Karthik. The duo added 57 in 9.2 overs before Karthik was run out going for a sharp single off Ladda. That was the opening India Green needed, and Ladda barged into it, picking up the next four wickets to finish with career-best figures. He had Saurabh Tiwary caught at point, and then lured Yusuf Pathan, Monish Mishra and Parthiv into holing out down the ground. With Parthiv falling for a well-made 86 off 100 deliveries, India Red had slumped to 162 for 7, having lost four wickets for 56 runs in 14.2 overs. Pankaj – who made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka earlier this year in Harare – returned to clean up the tail to finish with 3 for 36.India Green were off to a quick start before Vinay Kumar removed the openers, having Naman Ojha caught at short point by Kohli and then trapping S Anirudha in front. Meanwhile, Badrinath was displaying his repertoire of strokes at the other end, taking Ashok Dinda for three boundaries in an over. He pulled a short ball outside off behind square, drove the next one back of a length through the covers, and finished with a pleasing on-drive to a full delivery.Rohit Sharma joined Badrinath for an 87-run stand, the highest of the match. He matched Badrinath in stroke-making, unfurling the cut, the pull, the drive and the flick with languid ease. He had moved to 48 before he was bowled by a slower one from Dinda, missing the line as it went through the gap between bat and pad. Dinda got Badrinath leg before in his next over for 67, but it was too little, too late for India Red, as India Green got the bonus point for their easy victory.

Ele voltou!

E eu tenho mil!

Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold leaks more info on Conte, Pochettino and PSG

Fresh information has emerged regarding Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte’s links to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, as well as details on Mauricio Pochettino’s links to Spurs.

The Lowdown: Conte news

According to Le Parisien (via Get French Football News), Conte has offered himself to officials at PSG on an initial two-year engagement in the hope of replacing Mauricio Pochettino, who is soon expected to be relieved of his duties as head coach, already drawing links back to N17.

However, Alasdair Gold, football.london’s Spurs reporter, has revealed that people around the Italian have suggested that the rumours are not true.

As a result, a sense of unrest has overwhelmed the ongoing preparations at Hotspur Way ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leicester City.

The Latest: Fresh info emerges

According to a fresh report by football.london reporter Gold, there is no official break clause this summer in Conte’s deal.

At the end of the season, it is expected that the 52-year-old will meet with chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paratici to discuss future plans.

Gold also reveals that previous claims of Levy holding regular contact with Pochettino are false, saying ‘those within the Argentine’s camp’ have shared that the former fan favourite exchanges only the odd pleasantry with the Spurs chief.

The Verdict: Conte is crucial to Spurs

Whilst the opening few months with the Italian in charge hardly went swimmingly, Tottenham have managed to win 13 of their 23 league matches under Conte’s reign.

As a result, the Lilywhites have cemented themselves as genuine top-four contenders in the league this season. Spurs are now up to fifth in the Premier League table, just two points behind Arsenal in fourth.

This improvement illustrates the vast changes which have positively affected the north London club’s results. Therefore, this means the news that there is no official break clause in Conte’s deal will come as a huge sigh of relief to Tottenham fans.

We showed strength of character – McCullum

New Zealand could have folded after Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum were dismissed before lunch, but Kane Williamson and Jesse Ryder stood firm

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Nov-2010

Brendon McCullum had looked in little trouble before MS Dhoni whipped off the bails•Associated Press

The frustration on Brendon McCullum’s face as he trudged off said it all. A wicketkeeper himself, he had known the moment MS Dhoni whipped off the bails that his innings was over, and confirmation from the third umpire merely intensified the disgust. He and Ross Taylor had defied India for 215 balls, adding 104 along the way, but with Taylor having given India a belated Diwali gift, his dismissal came at the worst possible time.Jesse Ryder hadn’t played a Test since Sri Lanka in August 2009, and was on just two when McCullum headed for the pavilion. Kane Williamson, who emerged from it, was in his first game. “You work so hard to get into that situation,” McCullum said. “You feel you have a decent read on what the bowlers are doing. I was disappointed to leave two new guys at the crease so close to Ross’s dismissal.”After a belligerent start, McCullum was more than happy to play the waiting game, though he seldom missed an opportunity to crash the loose ball past the infield. “I’m going through a challenge at the moment, of becoming a Test opening batsman,” he said. “It’s quite different from my previous 50 Tests. I was happy to get a score and bat some overs, take some shine off the ball. But I was also bitterly disappointed to get out after doing the hard work.”He needn’t have worried though. By the time Ryder and Williamson were parted in the final over of the day, they had added 194 from 412 balls and kept India at bay for nearly five hours. Having fought back with the ball on day two, the batting riposte was straight out of fantasy land. “I sat back and watched some of the best batting we’ve seen from a New Zealand No.5 and No.6 for a long long time,” McCullum said. “I don’t think anyone could have expected those guys to play as well as they did. We have high expectations of each member of this team, but Jesse hasn’t played a Test for a while and Kane was playing his first.”To put on that size partnership against quality bowlers has put us in a position where we’re now back in the Test.”New Zealand made 262 runs in the day at nearly three an over, losing just three wickets, but with Ryder suffering from tightness in his calf and Hamish Bennett still doubtful with a groin strain, they might have to bat at least two more sessions to make sure the game is safe. “There’s still two days to go in the Test and we’ve all seen that a lot can happen in Indian conditions in that time on a wearing wicket,” McCullum said. “We have five wickets tomorrow and we have to bat as deep as we can.”We need to try and get as close as we can to the Indian total, hopefully go past it. Then, control what we can with the ball. It’s not going to be easy. Our bowling attack is a little bit light with Hamish down and Jesse with a bit of a tight calf as well. But today, we’ve fought our way back and shown strength of character.”We’ve walked away incredibly satisfied with our day’s work. We’re under no illusions about how hard it’s going to be, but it’s a step in the right direction for us as a team. From a spectator’s point of view as well, it was enthralling cricket right the way through.”New Zealand were helped along by two big slices of luck. Ryder was 11 when a flashed drive off Sreesanth deflected off Rahul Dravid’s palms instead of sticking to them, and there were incredulous stares from Zaheer Khan and the fielders when Kumar Dharmasena was unmoved after Williamson appeared to nick one behind when he had 56.But those aside, the way the two ground India down was a lesson to any touring side. Williamson defended and attacked with equal aplomb off the back foot, while Ryder slammed one huge six off Harbhajan Singh as if to show that restricted movement wasn’t going to cramp his style. He also continued the long tradition of left-handers tormenting India. Andy Flower, now England’s coach, averaged 94 against India, while another big man with booming strokes, Clive Lloyd, scored seven of his 19 centuries against them. Ryder, who made a century at Hamilton and a double in Napier when India toured in 2009, might feel sufficiently confident to hum that old football taunt the next time he walks to the crease: “Can we play you every week?”The bigger story though was Williamson and the composure he showed even when kept quiet for long periods. “Guys don’t tend to develop in New Zealand till they’re much older,” said McCullum of the 20-year-old. “He’s an incredible talent. We saw that during his one-day hundred in Bangladesh a couple of weeks ago, and we’ve seen it here against a very good Indian bowling line-up. His ability to negotiate tough periods and fight his way through. He has a real calm presence at the crease and I hope he goes on tomorrow to what would be a memorable Test hundred.”There was qualified praise too from Sreesanth, India’s best bowler on a day when opportunities were as rare as signs of life on this Motera pitch. “They batted well,” he said. “We can’t take anything away from them, even if it was a flat track. Williamson looked solid and had a good defence.”After the embarrassing one-day defeat in Bangladesh, the last two days at Motera have provided New Zealand cricket with a tremendous fillip. “It’s incredibly significant,” McCullum said. “We’ve gone through a tough time in the one-day game. It can have a flow-on effect to other forms. But today, we’ve bounced back. We saw it yesterday with the ball too. It’s nice to tick off some improvements. There are some characteristics we want to be known for as a team. That’s fighting like we have done today, and showing the talent that many of us batsmen do have.”One of them, Williamson, has the chance to become only the second New Zealander to score a century against India on debut. Bruce Taylor, who did it in 1965, was a pace-bowling allrounder who pummelled 105 in just 158 minutes after coming in at No.8. Good as that effort was, it certainly didn’t come against a side rated the best in the world.

Chris Swan gave South Australia a huge fright after Rob Cassell’s first five-wicket haul had put them on top at Allan Border Field. Queensland were dismissed in the second session for 196, giving the Redbacks a 27-run advantage, but the visitors were soon the side under pressure and went to stumps at 4 for 32.Swan followed his six wickets in the first innings with 3 for 14 off eight overs, and was responsible for dropping South Australia to 3 for 10 in the fifth over. Luke Feldman also chipped in to take care of Aiden Blizzard and set up an intriguing third day.Cassell switched from Victoria during the winter and produced a stunning haul in only the fifth first-class match of his career. Ryan Broad (65) and Ben Dunk (35) had Queensland on track at 3 for 118 before Cassell and Dan Christian struck under the cloudy skies.Cassell finished with 6 for 53 from 16.1 overs while Christian collected 2 for 42. James Hopes (30) and Cameron Boyce (31) pushed Queensland closer to their target, but Cassell secured the two points when he caught-and-bowled Boyce.
