Confirmado como treinador do Flamengo nesta terça-feira, Abel Braga já sabe que a cobrança da nova diretoria rubro-negra será por títulos em 2019. Na Sede da Gávea para acompanhar a eleição do Conselho Deliberativo, na noite desta terça, o presidente Rodolfo Landim comentou o acerto com o treinador, anunciado momentos antes, e revelou o que pediu ao técnico na reunião que selou a contratação.

– Título. Eu quero ganhar título. (A resposta foi que) Ele vai dar o máximo que puder para nos dar os títulos, pois é o que ele também quer. Ou seja, temos um alinhamento muito grande de vontade, de interesses. A torcida pode ficar feliz, acho que os títulos vão chegar – afirmou o mandatário eleito no sábado.

O presidente prometeu durante sua campanha uma mudança de postura no clube, a começar por ele na presidência, e, em sua visão, Abel Braga atende às características necessárias para fazer do Fla, novamente, um time vencedor.

-O Abel é um técnico que já mostrou ao longo de sua carreira que é um técnico vencedor, cobrador, que é um técnico que tem vontade de ganhar e tem tudo aquilo que o Flamengo está precisando neste momento. Eu já vinha falando, em outras entrevistas, que eu tinha dois técnicos em mente. Deixei claro que um deles era o Abel e estamos muito felizes de tê-lo conosco – disse Landim.

Apesar do anúncio, Landim revelou que o contrato entre Abel e Flamengo ainda não foi sequer redigido, mas as partes já estão em acordo. A assinatura se dará quando a nova diretoria assumir de forma oficial o comando do clube, o que só será realizado em 2 de janeiro, com o empossamento do presidente Landim.

-Nós e o Abel chegamos a um acordo com relação aos principais itens do que seria a relação contratual que será estabelecida com o Flamengo. Temos que redigir o contrato, o que temos são pequenos pontos e princípios que já são suficientes visto a pessoa que ele. Vamos estar juntos a partir do início do ano que vem quando assumirmos o clube – explicou Rodolfo Landim na Gávea.

They are in free fall, and continue to touch a newer nadir each time. The failure of the batsmen has been a common factor in all these reversals, and it was no different at Eden Gardens. While the aggregate first-wicket stand for both teams in the game was 183, the aggregate for the remaining nine wickets was just 232. This is the second-lowest aggregate for the second to tenth wickets in India-Pakistan matches (all partnerships broken).

MS Dhoni’s strike rate of 60.67 during his 54 is his lowest strike rate for a fifty-plus score in ODIs. His previous lowest was 65.90 during his 58 against Australia in Kochi in 2007.

Sehwag and Gambhir may have put on 42, but their partnership was full of plays-and-misses and inside edges eluding the stumps. Raina had already been tested by the inevitable short balls, had escaped a run-out chance, and went stumped as he lunged to drive a Hafeez delivery.The batsmen’s meek capitulation meant the fightback from the bowlers, kickstarted by Ravindra Jadeja, was in vain. Pakistan had zoomed to 141 for 0 inside 24 overs before Jadeja, playing because Dhoni wanted an allrounder bowling instead of part-timers, broke the opening partnership by removing Hafeez, and later dismissed the centurion Nasir Jamshed and Kamran Akmal within three deliveries. Pakistan sputtered on a slightly uneven pitch, which seemed to get somewhat difficult for batting as the balls got older.It all started with an ungainly sweep from Hafeez, who till then, had timed the ball beautifully in his fourth century stand with Jamshed in nine ODI innings. Suddenly, all momentum seemed to drain from the innings. Ishant gave nothing away, bowling a tight line from the other end. And things began to work for India.In Jadeja’s next over, Azhar Ali trotted out of his crease even as the bowler was appealing for lbw. MS Dhoni was alert enough to reach the ball and lob it back before Azhar could return. In the 35th over, just before the batting Powerplay was to be taken, fortune, and the sweep, struck for India. Younis Khan inside-edged Suresh Raina on to his pad, and was given leg-before. Pakistan were still strongly placed at 177 for 3, but after Misbah-ul-Haq departed lbw to R Ashwin in the first over of the batting Powerplay, they took just 26 off it.Jamshed, struggling to time the ball now, still kept going. Jadeja was not done yet, though. First ball on his return in the 42nd over, he had Jamshed stranded way down the pitch for Dhoni to complete the stumping on the second attempt. Two balls later, he spun one away from Kamran Akmal for the thick-edged drive to fly to slip, a position Dhoni stuck to even at that late stage. Pakistan had soon lost ten wickets for 109 in 24.4 overs, scarcely believable numbers after their start.Overcast Kolkata skies and his batsmen’s capitulation in swinging Chennai conditions had made Dhoni ask Pakistan to bat. To his dismay, the promised, prodigious swing didn’t show up. Last time a Test was played at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium was in 2010, when India beat Australia by one wicket. Mitchell Johnson took a five-for. So did Zaheer Khan. Ben Hilfenhaus and Doug Bollinger were in the wickets. All up, 25 batsmen fell to pace over the course of the Test, and only 12 to spin.Of course, a lot can change in two and a half years. Just ask Simon Katich, who was opening with Shane Watson during that Test. Or the first-choice spinner Nathan Hauritz. The struggles of Australia’s batting line-up mean Henriques remains the second leading run scorer in the squad with 154 at 51.33, and the batsmen need to offer significantly more support to Michael Clarke, who has 268 runs at 67.”Michael has been scoring a lot of runs for us and we need to chip in and take a lot of the pressure off Michael so he can play with a bit of freedom,” Henriques said. “We do have the players to do it and after the first couple of Tests we’re starting to learn more about the conditions over here. I think a lot of the … playing XI hadn’t played a lot of cricket over here, especially in five-day cricket. Although it was disappointing the first two Tests are a learning curve. We’ve just got to keep learning and getting better, that’s all we can do at this stage.”A return to Mohali might also provide some pleasant memories for the vice-captain Watson, who has not scored a Test hundred since his 126 in the last Test at the venue in 2010. Clarke’s decision to move up the order for this game could mean Watson is also bumped up to No.3, if the struggling Phillip Hughes is left out, but the batting line-up is far from the only decision Australia’s selectors must make over the next few days.Unless the pitch provides a surprise when it is uncovered, it is unlikely the Australians will again pick two spinners as they did in Hyderabad, meaning either Johnson or Mitchell Starc would likely be included.
