Everton fans are fearing the worst after Bernard’s injury

Everton fans are devastated after news broke suggest the recent injury to Bernard is worse than was initially feared. The club have confirmed that the Brazilian suffered a grade 2 medial ligament injury during the game against Brighton & Hove Albion. There is no set return date right now as the medical staff wait for a further diagnosis from the knee experts at the club to ensure his fastest possible return.Prior to the injury against the Seagulls, Bernard was one of the few Everton players who had finally started to hit some form. His goal against West Ham United was his second in the Premier League this season and gave a glimpse into what the 27-year-old can offer Marco Silva.

The injury just adds to the harsh luck Everton are enduring this season, as Yerry Mina was sidelined last week as well. Also, against Brighton, a controversial VAR call allowed the home side to equalise, shortly before an unfortunate own goal from Lucas Digne lost the points in the dying seconds.

Some Everton fans have claimed this new injury could run them into the relegation zone, whilst others suggested it sums up their troubles this season.

Here’s what a select few have had to say…

Newcastle fans react to Miguel Almiron’s red card for Paraguay against Serbia

Miguel Almiron has been the centre of much debate for Newcastle over the past few days, but his latest actions for Paraguay are unlikely to do him any favours.

Some fans have been flocking to his defence after criticism of his start to the season, with the likes of Darren Bent laying into him for his performance against Manchester United, claiming that he should have done better with a first-half chance.

The winger is without a goal or assist for the club since joining in January yet has had 30 shots for the club in the league, and after getting sent off against Serbia on Thursday his luck seems to be out at the moment.

Despite that, some Magpies are pleased with the red, mistakenly thinking it means he will get a rest and avoid injury – forgetting the fact that he won’t be suspended as it occurred in a friendly.

The 25-year-old picked up two yellow cards for fouls, and his indiscipline reminded one fan of former striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who ended up scoring the winning goal for Serbia.

Here is how some Newcastle fans have been reacting to Almiron’s dismissal.

Man Utd fans slam decision to give Brandon Williams a new contract

Ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins from Jose Mourinho last December, the emphasis at Manchester United has been about giving the club’s abundance of youth talents a chance.

The likes of Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes, amongst others, have been given their opportunity to shine over the past few months, and it appears another academy product has been rewarded for his emergence onto the scene.

Brandon Williams completed his first full 90 minutes when he played against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League earlier this season, and Solskjaer hailed his “top class” performance.

Now, reports have confirmed the 19-year-old has signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, with his new deal taking his potential stay at the club until the summer of 2022.

After hearing the contract news, many supporters of the Manchester side slammed the decision to hand Williams a new contract, with one fan in particular suggesting it is a “tale of mediocrity”.

Spurs boss Pochettino mustn’t treat Eriksen differently to Alderweireld & Vertonghen

Following a dreadful display against Olympiacos in the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur contract rebel Christian Eriksen was, probably deservedly, dropped to the substitutes’ bench for the Premier League trip to Leicester City at the weekend.

Marca reported earlier this month that the Denmark international has rejected every Daniel Levy contract offer on the table as he waits for Real Madrid to make their move, and it’s hard to argue that he has been 100% committed to Spurs when it has come to his performances this term.

Nothing went right for the 27-year-old in Athens as he picked up a 3/10 rating from Football London for his display, yet he still managed to stay on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

If Mauricio Pochettino showed some faith in the Dane then, it was a different story when it came to naming his starting XI at the King Power Stadium as he was left among the substitutes.

The Argentine manager is lucky in that sense that he has great competition for places – in theory anyway – with Son Heung-min, Dele Alli, Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso – when he returns from injury – all able to fill in for Eriksen.

If Pochettino is going to be ruthless when it comes to one of the main playmakers in his team, he must do the same to two key players in Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld when they don’t perform, too.

The Belgian duo are in a similar boat to their teammate because their own deals are due to expire next summer, and therefore they shouldn’t be treated any differently even if perhaps there is a little less competition for the centre-back berths.

As things stand the north London outfit will lose them either in January for a fee or next summer for nothing, and therefore their manager should be looking to the future rather than sticking with them when theyare below-par.

He does have Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth to call upon when needed, and he shouldn’t be afraid to blood both of those for the good of the future of the club if Alderweireld and Vertonghen aren’t up to scratch.

There has been signs of that as well with the latter not great and giving away an uncharacteristically cheap penalty in the draw with Olympiacos as Spurs crumbled having taken a 2-0 lead, while the former struggled to deal with the pace of Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes in the opening 45 minutes at the weekend.

If Pochettino wants the respect of his players and the fans, he shouldn’t be treating those two players any differently to Eriksen if their below-par displays continue.

Arsenal vs Manchester United shows how much the Premier League has changed

Arsenal and Manchester United will face each other in the Premier League on Monday night as both sides compete for the top four.

Of the two, the Gunners have had the best start to the campaign. They currently sit in fourth on 11 points after six games. They have not looked convincing, though, with all three of their victories coming courtesy of one-goal margins.

Manchester United, however, will wish they could swap places with Unai Emery’s side. It all started so well, with a 4-0 victory against Chelsea on the opening day of the campaign. However, they have only won one league match since then, and they looked particularly lethargic against West Ham last Sunday.

For both sides, it used to be so different, and their fall from grace shows just how much the Premier League has changed in recent years.

Younger generations may only be used to Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool competing regularly for the Premier League title, but Arsenal and United used to be the top dogs in English football. Between 1996 and 2003, no-one else won the Premier League title as Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson went head-to-head.

Who can forget United’s 6-1 hammering of the Gunners in 2001, or the ugly scenes following Ruud van Nistelrooy’s penalty miss in 2003? These are just two of the most iconic moments seen on these shores.

The intensity and passion – which sometimes went overboard, as the van Nistelrooy incident showed – bring back memories of a bygone era. While the Premier League may now be producing some fantastic football, it is hard not to be nostalgic about what could be called the division’s golden age.

The landscape has long-since changed, though. Neither Ferguson nor Wenger are still at their respective clubs, and the teams have won just two titles between them this decade. Both of them were won by United.

Now, it is indeed the Citizens and the Reds who are fighting for the title and, unfortunately for the Red Devils and Gunners’ supporters, neither of the two former giants look like rivalling them any time soon.

Even for the neutral fan, it is bizarre to see the two struggle to keep up with the new leading lights.

As it is, next week’s game is nothing more than a contest between two teams competing to finish in the top four.

They, just like the supporters of the two teams, will need to remember the glory days to remind themselves of a time when Manchester United and Arsenal ruled English football.

Tottenham join the chase for Birmingham hotshot Che Adams

[ad_pod ]

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have joined the hunt for Birmingham’s in-form hotshot Che Adams, along with a number of other clubs who have taken a keen interest in signing the Championship marksman.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Adams is currently enjoying the season of his life right now, and his form has not gone unnoticed.

The 22-year-old has hit 19 goals in 29 Championship starts so far this season, as well as recording three assists, with his form a large reason for Birmingham’s unlikely push for the play-off positions – they are just seven points away right now, with plenty more games still left to play.

Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal along with Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in signing the English forward, whilst Burnley and Southampton saw bids rebuffed for Adams in the January window and Celtic and Watford have scouted the goal machine recently (as per The Mirror).

Do Spurs really need Adams?

Given the fact that Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t made a single signing over the last two transfer windows, one would only assume that there isn’t too much money to spend at the club – the debts from the construction of the new White Hart Lane may also be a contributing factor.

In that respect, the aforementioned TEAMtalk article states that Birmingham want £20m for Adams, which could be a lot for Spurs right now. Is it really worth splashing that much on a player who will only be used as Harry Kane’s understudy?

You may argue that Pochettino needs another forward, but we have seen by Heung-min Son’s blistering form and Fernando Llorente’s resurgence in the absence of Kane that there are plenty of players at the club who can step up in a time of need.

Perhaps any money afforded to Pochettino by Daniel Levy should be spent on a new right-back, as all three of Kyle Walker-Peters, Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier have failed to nail down a place in the team on a consistent basis.

Tottenham: Agreement reached for Sofyan Amrabat

Tottenham have allegedly reached an agreement with Fiorentina for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

The Lowdown: Amrabat profiled

Amrabat is a Morocco international who is primarily a defensive midfielder who can also play in a central role.

The 25-year-old is valued at £8.1m by Transfermarkt and has made 45 appearances for the Serie A side after joining back in 2020.

He’s been missing in Fiorentina’s last four league outings and is yet to contribute to a goal for his current employers, with a move to Antonio Conte’s side now looking likely before Monday’s deadline.

The Latest: Agreement reached

According to Corriere Fiorentino, relayed by Sports Witness, Amrabat is ‘more than happy’ to move to Spurs and it will happen ‘barring surprises’.

Conte and Fabio Paratici both ‘rate’ the midfielder, with an ‘agreement reached’ between the two clubs.

It seems as if Tanguy Ndombele has to leave the club first, though, with the report claiming the Frenchman is ‘blocking’ a transfer being finalised.

The Verdict: Needed

Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements in the final days of the window and have ultimately wasted a lot of time on pursuing Adama Traore, who is in Barcelona ahead of a loan move.

They also look set to miss out on Luis Diaz, so it’s good news that a move for Amrabat is all but sealed, providing Ndombele can seal a move away from north London.

He now looks set to become the club’s third defensive midfielder on the books alongside Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks, so it’ll be interesting to see how Conte uses Amrabat in the second half of the season.

In other news: Spurs now preparing last-gasp bid to sign ‘special’ player who could leave for just £14m.

Everton given boost in Muller pursuit

Everton made five new signings during the January transfer window, along with appointing a new manager in Frank Lampard in an effort to turn the tide on their poor season, and now the club could already be getting ahead in their summer transfer window plans.

What’s the word?

According to MailOnline, Everton have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller.

The report comes as the Germany forward gave an interview to Bild, confirming that no talks have been opened to extend his contract as he said: “No one has ever approached me from the club. So you have to see what the future will bring.”

The 32-year-old will be out of contract next summer, and as per the report from MailOnline, he has been recently linked with a move to Everton and Newcastle United.

James Rodriguez upgrade

Muller has had a phenomenal career with his boyhood club Bayern Munich, winning an impressive 29 trophies, scoring 223 goals and supplying 238 assists during his time in the first team.

Even at 32 years of age, the attacker – who was dubbed a “natural talent” by his former Germany coach Joachim Löw – has scored nine goals and set up another 20 for his team-mates in just 29 appearances already this season, proving that he is still hugely impactful for and important to the Bundesliga side.

The attacking output Muller has achieved in the current campaign alone would be a huge upgrade for Everton in their current situation, and an upgrade on James Rodriguez, who left Goodison Park earlier this season after an enigmatic spell on Merseyside.

Having scored three times in his first four games for the club, the Colombian added just three more in his subsequent 22 appearances before quitting for Al-Rayyan in Qatar. Contrast that with the aforementioned consistency which Muller has provided at Bayern and there is really no comparison between the two players.

The arrival of Chelsea legend Lampard should help Everton to attract players, and it could be the difference in the Toffees making the incredible signing of the £250k-p/w gem ahead of Newcastle, thanks to the duo’s with each other during their respective playing careers.

The German goal machine has been effusive in his praise for the Toffees manager’s success as a player, telling The Athletic: “He was a super player. He played practical football. He was a player I can really relate to.”

Muller would definitely add a huge layer of experience and leadership to an Everton team which seems to be lacking in confidence due to a series of poor performances this season, leaving them 16th in the Premier League table and just four points off the relegation zone.

Everton fans on Brands revelation

Many Everton fans have been left flocking to a revelation involving Marcel Brands.

As per The Liverpool Echo, both Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson had been long-term targets for the Goodison Park faithful, and were identified by the recruitment department that worked under Brands.

Of course, the Dutchman has now left the Merseyside club, which begs the question as to whether he should have gone in the first place, given that he essentially helped identify the Toffees’ latest two signings.

There has not always been a good connection between supporters and the board in general, as they have taken a particular disliking to chairman Bill Kenwright, and so revelations like these really do not really help that relationship.

Nonetheless, it appears that a lot of Blues are not really shocked by the news.
