Arsenal hold talks to sign £88m star who Bayern are ‘pushing very hard’ for

Arsenal have held negotiations with the representatives of a marquee forward who Bayern Munich really want to sign, according to a new report.

Arsenal linked with new forward despite near-£270m summer splash

Mikel Arteta is very well stocked for attacking options right now, with sporting director Andrea Berta also spending nearly £270 million on eight major signings in the summer.

This shopping spree included Noni Madueke — who scored a brace against Club Brugge in the Champions League last night — Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres.

The presence of highly-rated attacking youngsters like Ethan Nwaneri, with Gabriel Jesus also returning from injury against Brugge and Kai Havertz due back soon, makes the prospect of a new attacker almost feel unnecessary.

However, that hasn’t stopped reports from suggesting the Gunners could strengthen in the final third next year.

Standout attacker 'will soon sign' for Arsenal with talks in 'full swing'

He’s been in fine form this season.

ByEmilio Galantini 5 days ago

Gabriel Martinelli became the first Arsenal player in history to score in five consecutive Champions League games last night, but with his contract expiring in 2027, Berta and Arteta need to consider the long term.

The same can be said of in-form winger Leandro Trossard, whose contract also expires in 2027 despite signing a new and improved deal recently, which included a deserved pay rise.

Juventus star Kenan Yildiz reportedly has admirers at Arsenal amid his contract situation and stellar last 18 months in Turin, while other media sources claim that the north Londoners are contenders for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in January.

The Ghanaian has been one of the Premier League’s standout forwards this season and is a self-proclaimed Arsenal supporter, with his tantalising £65 million release clause – active in early January – enticing plenty of interest.

Another exciting forward who Arsenal are paying attention too comes in the form of RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande.

The teenager is in ‘sensational’ form for Leipzig right now, as per Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, after an impressive 11 goal contributions in his last 15 total appearances.

Diomande only made his first ever senior club appearance in March, thereafter joining Leipzig in a £17.5 million deal from Leganes last summer.

His rise has been nothing short of superb, with the Bundesliga side now poised to demand an eye-watering £88 million for his signature.

Arsenal hold talks with top Bayern Munich target Yan Diomande

That is according to TEAMtalk and other sources, who report that the Ivory Coast sensation is a wanted man.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético Madrid are all credited with an interest in Diomande, but it is Bayern who are ‘pushing very hard’ and regularly talking to his entourage.

However, TT also state that Arsenal have held their own talks with Diomande’s camp as the winger continues to garner elite admirers from all over Europe.

Liverpool are also in what has been described as ‘daily contact’ too, with the race for Africa’s latest rising star heating up as we fast approach 2026.

According to Sky Switzerland reporter Sacha Tavolieri last week, Tottenham have held ‘very advanced’ discussions with Diomande’s camp as well, so Arsenal could seriously upset their arch rivals alongside the likes of Bayern and Liverpool.

That being said, his quite extraordinary £88m price tag will make Berta think twice, as the raw talent is still a pretty unknown quantity after only just bursting on to the scene this calendar year.

£65m star very tempted to join Arsenal in January after admitting he's a fan

He’s made his preference crystal clear.

Australia look for a final lift to earn share of T20 series

India’s spinners have started to dominate but the Gabba surface may not be quite as conducive for them

Tristan Lavalette07-Nov-20251:47

Dube: Our plan was to make them hit to the bigger boundaries

Big Picture: Series on the line, with T20 World Cup on the horizonIndia’s brilliant bowling performances, bamboozling Australia with spin, in Hobart and the Gold Coast has turned the series on its head. Josh Hazlewood’s stranglehold of India’s batters earlier in the series feels like a long time ago as a shorthanded Australia – without frontline players turning their focus to the Ashes – stare down the barrel of a series defeat.Australia can’t win the series, but can salvage a draw in the fifth and final T20I at the Gabba. Even though almost all the attention across the country is on the Ashes, meaning scrutiny on this series is minimal, Australia’s hierarchy have a few things to ponder ahead of a fast-approaching T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.Related

Axar, Dube, Washington power India to 2-1 series lead

Axar's deceptive simplicity dismantles Australia's threat

Australia's power play doused by Indian spin

Australia have a clear plan of all-out attack, which can look spectacular on faster surfaces or against the right match-up. But this high-voltage batting-order failed to execute on a slower Gold Coast surface in game four. Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar completely dominated as Australia collapsed to a sizeable defeat after laying a good platform. With the T20 World Cup to be played in what could be spin-friendly conditions, Australia are facing questions over whether they can combat high-quality spin attacks. A faster Gabba pitch is unlikely to provide answers, but Australia will want a confidence boost and to avoid a third straight T20I defeat – undoing somewhat the team’s rousing form since the last World Cup.After a sluggish start to the series, India have continued their strong record having never lost a T20I series in Australia – bar a one-off match in 2007-08. With their slew of spinners running rampant, India have proven why they are so hard to beat in this format as they eye becoming the first country to successfully defend their T20 World Cup crown. After conditions were to their liking over the past couple of games, India will face a challenge in Brisbane and the spotlight will be on how their top-order can fare even though a Hazlewood-less attack is slightly a less scary prospect. If they seal a series triumph, India will head home feeling well pleased ahead of a T20 World Cup they will start as favourites.Form guideAustralia LLWWW

In the spotlight: Josh Inglis and Shubman GillIt’s been a frustrating start to the Australian season for Josh Inglis, who suffered a calf injury before the tour of New Zealand and it took longer to recover. Inglis has finally made it back, but his returns with the bat this series have been modest with just 33 runs in three innings. A noted player of spin, Inglis was completely bamboozled by Axar on the Gold Coast in a poor dismissal. At No. 3, Inglis holds a valuable spot in the order and his struggles have contributed to Australia’s indecisiveness this series. He will also be eyeing a good hit-out in the middle before switching to the red ball in the Sheffield Shield having been selected in Australia’s first Test Ashes squad as the reserve wicketkeeper. He is the only member of the 15-player squad playing in this game.It has not been a fruitful tour for Shubman Gill, who could not get going with the bat as India slumped to an ODI series loss to start his captaincy reign in the format. Without the captaincy burden in the T20Is, he has fared slightly better in this series although has still yet to crack a half-century on tour. He came close on the Gold Coast when he top-scored with 46 off 39 balls. Gill, however, lacked fluency in the innings, struggling against the new ball before some of his favoured flat-bat shots started to return. Team news: Philippe’s middle-order role, India to remain unchanged Fringe white-ball player Matt Short was in good touch on the Gold Coast after replacing Travis Head, who is preparing for the Ashes. Short made 25 off 19 balls before the wheels fell off the innings. Josh Philippe made just 10 at No. 5 in his first T20I innings in almost two years and may be battling to hold his spot, with Mitch Owen a chance to return.Australia (possible): 1 Matt Short, 2 Mitchell Marsh (capt), 3 Josh Inglis (wk), 4 Tim David, 5 Mitch Owen/Josh Philippe, 6 Marcus Stoinis, 7 Glenn Maxwell, 8 Xavier Bartlett, 9 Ben Dwarshuis, 10 Nathan Ellis, 11 Adam ZampaIndia are unlikely to tinker with their successful blueprint and should roll out the same XI even though conditions probably won’t be as conducive to turn.India (possible): 1 Abhishek Sharma, 2 Shubman Gill, 3 Suryakumar Yadav (capt), 4 Tilak Varma, 5 Axar Patel, 6 Washington Sundar, 7 Jitesh Sharma, 8 Shivam Dube, 9 Arshdeep Singh, 10 Varun Chakravarthy, 11 Jasprit BumrahPitch and conditionsAs is the norm this time of year in Brisbane, there is the threat of thunderstorms later in the day. The Gabba surface traditionally has plenty of pace and bounce to encourage the seamers, but runs can also flow freely with BBL games at the ground often noted for high totals.Stats and triviaJasprit Bumrah is one away from 100 T20I wickets. He would become the first India player to have 100 wickets in all three formats. The last time Australia lost at least three straight T20Is was a four-game skid to West Indies and Bangladesh in July 2021. India have not won three consecutive T20Is against Australia since a clean sweep in January 2016 in Australia. Australia’s four-run victory over India in November 2018 is the only previous T20I match between the teams at the Gabba.Quotes”I find it challenging in bilateral series because you’re bowling to the same batters every second night, every third night. So it becomes a little bit of cat-and-mouse of what did I do to them last time, what are they looking for?”
“The quality bowling we have, the spinners, the fast bowlers, I trust them and the whole team trusts our bowlers.”

Mitchell ruled out of remainder of ODI series against West Indies

Henry Nicholls has been called up as cover while Mark Chapman is also part of the squad

ESPNcricinfo staff17-Nov-2025Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out* of the remainder of the ODI series against West Indies having picked up a groin strain during his match-winning century in Christchurch.Mitchell, who made 119 off 118 balls in New Zealand’s seven-run victory, remained in Christchurch to undergo a scan, which confirmed a minor left groin tear. He is expected to need two weeks of rehabilitation but should be in contention for the first Test, also at Hagley Oval, starting on December 2.”It’s always tough being ruled out of a series early on with injury, particularly when you’re in hot form like Daryl is,” New Zealand head coach, Rob Walter. “He has been our standout performer in the ODI format so far this summer, so he’ll be missed for two important matches.”The positive is that the injury is only minor, and we should see Daryl recovered and fit for the Test series.”Left hander Henry Nicholls, who played the most recent of his 81 ODIs in early April, has been called into the squad for the second match in Napier on Wednesday. Nicholls is currently the leading scorer in the Ford Trophy with 306 runs at 76.50 including back-to-back centuries against Otago and Auckland.”Henry has been in top form in the Ford Trophy and is an experienced international cricketer, so it’s great to welcome him back into the side,” Walter said. “It’s always pleasing to be able to reward players who are in good touch, and we know Henry will be raring to go if given an opportunity.”Mark Chapman is the other spare batter in the squad and is averaging 101.33 from four ODIs this year.Mitchell has been in fine form this season, taking the player of the series award against England.”He is a man for crisis,” captain Mitchell Santner said after the century. “He played extremely well, on one leg at the end.”New Zealand are without several players for this series including Mohammad Abbas (ribs), Finn Allen (foot), Lockie Ferguson (hamstring), Adam Milne (ankle), Will O’Rourke (back), Glenn Phillips (groin), and Ben Sears (hamstring).Kane Williamson, who picked up a groin niggle against England, was also not considered as he focuses on preparing for the Tests against West Indies.*8pm GMT – This story was updated with confirmation of Mitchell being ruled out

Wilson trumps de Klerk in Thunder's big win over Heat

Sydney Thunder’s huge total of 200 for 6 has secured their second consecutive win in the WBBL and put the winless Brisbane Heat’s finals hopes in grave danger.Thunder opener Tahlia Wilson secured her second consecutive player-of-the-match award to inspire a 41-run. Wilson’s 79 off just 51 deliveries was the foundation for the 200-run total after being asked to bat by the hosts at Allan Border Field on Friday. The Heat were never in the hunt, despite a swashbuckling innings by South Africa international Nadine de Klerk (43 off 27 deliveries), and were bowled out for 159 in 19.1 overs.Wilson’s knock was just four runs short of her best-ever total of 83 and followed on from her unbeaten 55 against Perth Scorchers two days earlier. The 26-year-old drove the ball straight down the ground and through the off-side with precision and played an array of flicks through the leg-side, striking eight boundaries and clearing the rope twice.Wilson said opening the innings suited the way she wanted to play after taking her game to a new level.”I think being back at the top of the order has been a good thing for me,” Wilson told AAP. “I can go out there early, time the ball and get full value. I have expanded my game this year and I’m glad it is paying off.”In pre-season, I worked on trying to hit down the ground a lot more. A lot of girls know I do like to hit it square, but adding that gives me that option to go straight down the ground, particularly in the power play.”The Heat were without key batters Grace Harris (calf) and India’s World Cup star Jemimah Rodrigues, who had to return to India for a personal commitment. After 10 overs, the Thunder were 99 for 1, with the only joy for the Heat coming when their captain Jess Jonassen trapped her former Heat teammate Georgia Voll (21) in front attempting a reverse sweep.Thunder captain Phoebe Litchfield played an assortment of ramps and lofted off drives in her entertaining 31 off 19 balls, which included six boundaries. It was an attempted ramp that brought Litchfield’s downfall with Nicola Hancock rattling the stumps.Former Heat master blaster Laura Harris had no joy against her old team, holing out for her second golden duck in a row.The Heat’s WBBL campaign is on the rocks with no wins in four matches. Last year’s finalists will need to win five of their remaining six games to have a chance of figuring in this year’s finals series. The Thunder have found form with back-to-back wins after starting the season with three losses.

Paulo Dybala a 'mix of dream, illusion and reality' for Boca Juniors as Argentine giants confirm plan to reunite Roma star with 'agent' Leandro Paredes

Boca Juniors have publicly confirmed their ambitious interest in signing Roma forward Paulo Dybala, sparking a frenzy of speculation in Argentina. Club director Marcelo Delgado described the potential transfer as a complex mix of "dream and reality" but insisted the Buenos Aires giants are prepared to make a significant effort to secure the World Cup winner.

  • Boca Juniors confirm ambitious Dybala plan

The prospect of Dybala swapping the historic monuments of Rome for the fervent atmosphere of La Bombonera has long been a topic of whispers in South American football, but those quiet rumours have now been given a voice by the Boca Juniors hierarchy. Delgado, a key member of the club's Football Council, has openly discussed the club's desire to recruit La Joya.

Speaking to the media regarding the club's future transfer targets, Delgado did not shy away when asked about the Roma playmaker.

“Dream, illusion or reality? Dybala is a mix of all of this,” Delgado explained. “We hope to be able to make the necessary effort to bring him here, regardless of whether there is a possibility or not. The only thing I know is that his contract expires in June 2026. We will evaluate the situation and see what happens.”

Contract situation offers glimmer of hope

The Argentine forward is approaching the final six months of his deal with the Giallorossi, meaning he could start negotiating with clubs as of January with the view of making a free transfer at the end of the 2025-26 season.

While Dybala remains a key figure in Serie A, the lack of a contract renewal at the Stadio Olimpico has fuelled speculation that his time in Europe could be drawing to a close. Boca Juniors, led by president and club legend Juan Roman Riquelme, have made a habit of targeting elite veterans looking for an emotional return to South America. The arrival of Edinson Cavani previously proved that the club have the pull to attract global stars, and the hierarchy views Dybala as the next logical 'marquee' signing to elevate the club's status on the continental stage. However, the financial disparity between European wages and Argentine budgets remains the "illusion" part of Delgado's equation, requiring a massive financial package or a significant wage cut from the player.

  • The Leandro Paredes factor

Boca’s pursuit of Dybala is significantly strengthened by the presence of his close friend and World Cup-winning teammate, Leandro Paredes, who has already made the emotional journey home. The midfielder returned to Boca Juniors in July after activating a special clause in his own Roma contract, fulfilling his promise to return to the club while still in his prime. Since his arrival, Paredes has become the heartbeat of the Boca midfield, but his influence extends beyond the pitch.

Paredes and Dybala share a bond that goes beyond football, cemented during their time together in Italy and with the national team. It is an open secret in Buenos Aires that Paredes is acting as a de facto agent for the club. In multiple interviews leading up to his own return, Paredes publicly admitted to "driving Dybala crazy" about joining Boca, even joking that he told his daughter "Uncle Paulo" would eventually come with them.

    What comes next?

For now, Dybala remains a Roma player, tasked with navigating the demanding Serie A schedule. However, Delgado’s comments have undeniably placed pressure on the Italian club. By publicly declaring their intent to "make the effort," Boca Juniors have signalled that they are not merely passive admirers but active participants in the race for his signature.

As January looms, the situation will become clearer. If Roma fail to tie their talisman down to a new deal before the New Year, the "illusion" Delgado speaks of could rapidly solidify into a concrete proposal. In the meantime, he will line up for Roma when they take on Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Bayern Munich buy new stadium! German giants splash the cash with sizeable commitment to women's team

Bayern Munich have agreed to splash the cash to buy a new stadium as part of the club's commitment to their women's team. The Bayern women's side currently play in the stadium at their training ground, which only has 2,000 seats. The women's team have won the German top-flight league for the past three seasons, which has prompted the management to make significant investment on the side.

Bayern's new stadium

According to , the reigning Bundesliga champions have agreed to spend a whopping £6.5 million (€7.3m) on the Sportpark Unterhaching, which is located in the southern outskirts of Munich. The arena, which has a capacity to hold 15,000 people, will be used by the club as the new home for their women's team. It is a significant infrastructure improvement for the women's side, who earlier played their matches at Bayern's training ground stadium, which only has 2,000 seats.

The Sportpark Unterhaching is also the home ground for German fourth-tier club SpVgg Unterhaching, who once played in the Bundesliga between 1999 to 2001. Sportpark Unterhaching had the opportunity to buy the stadium permanently last summer, but they pulled out of the deal due to finances. The venue has hosted several Bundesliga, women’s national team, youth team and German Cup matches in the past.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportClub chief confirm new stadium

Speaking to the press recently, Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeness confirmed: "In Spain or England, top games are packed. “Here, you must bang the drum to get 20,000 spectators. And when they do come, we hug each other with joy. (Increasing attendance) is not so simple. (I’m a) friend of women’s football. Today they really can play well."

On passing up on buying the venue earlier this year, SpVGG Unterhaching president Manni Schwabl said: "Floodlights, lighting parameters, safety issues, pitch heating. All of that requires investment. We weren’t sure we could manage it."

How is it going for Bayern's women's team?

The Bayern women's side, who, like the male counterpart, dominate the German top-flight, are off to a flying start in the 2025-26 campaign. They have remained unbeaten in the league thus far, winning 11 out of their first 12 matches and are six points clear at the top of the table.

In the Women's Champions League, they have won three out of their first four matches and will be back in action on Wednesday against Atletico Madrid in a home fixture.

Meanwhile, following Liverpool star Mohamed Salah's infamous public outburst, the Egyptian winger has been tipped to move away from Anfield next month and several top clubs in Europe, including Bayern Munich, and the Saudi Pro League, have been linked with the winger.

Amid links to Munich, Bayern chief Max Eberl has ruled out the possibility of the Reds forward joining them, as he told : "We have an outstanding talent in Lennart Karl. Putting someone ahead of him now makes absolutely no sense. We've talked about the squad before – we have players coming back [from injury]. The transfers are coming from within. There are no plans to bring in any new players right now; the squad is homogeneous and balanced. A new player could also cause unrest because roles would shift."

Mets Pitcher Hit Randy Arozarena in the Head on First Pitch of Little League Classic

The Little League Classic is meant to be a wholesome event, but Sunday's clash between the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners got off to quite the opposite start.

The very first pitch of the game from Clay Holmes ran up and in, catching Mariners leadoff hitter Randy Arozarena right around the head.

Karl Ravech had barely even finished introducing the game by the time Holmes's pitch clipped Arozarena as the Little League Classic was off to a rather awkward start.

"… on , and he gets drilled by Holmes, right off the bat," said Ravech.

Some words were exchanged between the two teams but Arozarena eventually took first base without incident and play resumed. The outfielder was able to remain in the game.

That certainly wasn't the first pitch fans in Williamsport were anticipating on Sunday evening.
