Himachal Pradesh, who were sent in to bat, lost openers Ankush Bains and Prashant Chopra and were reduced to 8 for 2. Seamers Ravi Kiram and CV Milind had one wicket apiece.

Hashmatullah Shahidi’s 69 was supported by Mohammad Nabi, who took four wickets to help Afghanistan defend 233.BCB XI put out a strong line-up with eight international players but they were upended by Afghanistan’s bowlers. Mosaddek Hossain top-scored with a 97-ball 76.The BCB XI slipped to 39 for 4 as fast bowler Karim Janat had Imrul Kayes caught at mid-on in the fourth over before Anamul Haque skied left-arm pace bowler Fareed Ahmed in the next over. Sabbir Rahman then flicked Fareed to square leg and Mohammad Nabi had Liton Das stumped for 6.Mosaddek and Mehedi Hasan Miraz stabilised BCB XI with a 56-run, fifth-wicket stand. Miraz, though, was run out for 15 after backing up too far in the non-striker’s end in the 25th over.Mosaddek then kept a check on the asking rate during his sixth-wicket stand with Shuvagata Hom, the pair adding 59 in the next nine overs. Just when Mosaddek was looked to attack, he was beautifully bowled by Mohammad Nabi in the 34th over, the contest’s defining moment.Legspinner Rashid Khan’s googly then removed Alauddin Babu for a duck, as the chase slowly withered. Nabi picked up his third and fourth wickets in the 38th over when Al-Amin was brilliantly caught at deep square leg by Amir Hamza and Shuvagata Hom fell for 34, Janat taking the catch at mid-off. Fareed and Rashid took two wickets each.Put into bat, the visitors were bowled out with four balls to spare. Their score wouldn’t have crossed the 200-run mark had it not been for Hashmatullah Shahidi’s 69 after Afghanistan had slipped to 47 for 3 in the 15th over.Afghanistan were sluggish for most of the innings until Shahidi’s 63-run fourth-wicket stand with captain Asghar Stanikzai, who chipped in with 31. Rashid made 30 off 24 balls at no. 6 with four boundaries, but Shahidi fell in the 46th over when Afghanistan’s platform had been laid. Mirwais Ashraf’s 19-ball 32, the innings that featured three fours and two sixes, ensured a competitive total.Seaming allrounder Babu and offspinner Miraz claimed three wickets. Left-arm quick Abu Hider and right-arm pacer Subashis Roy took two wickets each.

Aston Villa have enjoyed a season of unpredicted success, with the Villans being just one game away from securing European football next term.

When Unai Emery took over in October, the squad was one lurking around the bottom half of the table, lacking creativity and stability under Steven Gerrard.

The Spaniard’s arrival turned the table at Villa, who have progressed at an astounding rate, ranking as the second-best team of 2023 in the Premier League behind champions Manchester City.

Playing as a defensive midfielder, the Glasgow-born talent captured the eye of Scotland’s U21 team, and was handed his call-up to the international games played in March.

The budding talent was signed by Celtic’s academy before being released in 2019. He signed for the Swans in 2021 after spending some time at Leicester City.

Now, it looks as though the Scotsman may get his breakthrough at the age of 20, perhaps conventionally later than normally expected in today’s game – though what is age when undeniable talent is on show?

What could Azeem Adbulai offer to Aston Villa?

Lauded as “fantastic” by Swansea’s departing senior professional development phase coach Jon Grey, Abdulai has been likened to Jude Bellingham for his playing style.

The 20-year-old’s ‘stature, playing style and ability’ were noted by the Daily Mail as being his key attributes that bear similarities to the Borussia Dortmund ace, and a style that would suit the requirements in Emery’s Villa midfield.

The Spaniard has an impressive track record when it comes to developing the careers of young players, and as seen throughout his previous clubs, isn’t afraid to drop senior players for a budding star if performance is evident.

Villa’s deep midfield often consists of 25-year-old Douglas Luiz and 23-year-old Boubacar Kamara – two young talents that tick together in marshalling the engine room.

A player such as Abdulai could provide added depth to Emery’s midfield plans for the future, as well as seeing Villa Park as an appropriate place to grow in seeing that the progression of young players is alive and kicking.

When Bellingham joined Dortmund from Birmingham City, the evidence was there of the player he could become, and with comparisons to the England international there, Villa could have their answer to the 19-year-old ace valued at £173m (€200m) – as per CIES Football Observatory.

A number of fans online have slammed Manchester United winger Antony after he failed to set up a teammate with a simple pass on the weekend.

What did Antony do wrong against Wolves?

The Red Devils gave their hopes of securing Champions League football a major boost on the weekend as they beat Wolves at home 2-0.

Indeed, Anthony Martial opened the scoring in the first half but it then took until the fourth minute of injury time for Alejandro Garnacho to seal the win with a second.

Wolves didn’t manage to have a single shot on target, while Man Utd had nine on target and 27 in total, showing just how dominant they were (via BBC Sport).

Speaking to the press after the game, manager Erik ten Hag seemed annoyed by his team’s inability to kill off the game sooner, saying: “We are very good in making the [opposition] goalkeeper man of the match!

And it seems Antony was perhaps the most guilty of all his players (via SofaScore) as he finished with an xG 0f 0.75, hit the woodwork and missed one big chance, all without getting his name on the scoresheet.

On top of that, he also could have helped set up Martial but unselfishly, failed to attempt the pass – as the image shared on Twitter below shows.

Although he did eventually end up getting an assist for his teammate to net the opener, supporters apparently didn’t haven’t forgiven the £200k-per-week winger for his earlier mistake.

Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergaints will kick off the weekend double-bonanza with their last games of the season. Both sides’ journeys have had several similarities, but there was contrast in their respective previous matches.Supergiants created a cavity in Delhi Daredevils’ chances of qualifying with a 19-run win in a rain-hit match. Ashok Dinda’s swing fetched him three wickets in a frugal spell, Adam Zampa and R Ashwin found substantial turn, and Ajinkya Rahane scored at the top, as usual. Supergiants handed an IPL debut to Deepak Chahar, and might consider giving chances to their other unused players – Ishwar Pandey, B Aparajith and Ankush Bains.Going by form, Kings XI appear weaker, and their confidence would have been dented further after being pummelled by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kings XI’s batsmen were never the incisors of their jaw and they were blunted further by almost being bowled out in a 15-over match. Bowling had been their core competence and that too took a beating in their previous two matches. Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo is ‘definitely’ set to leave the club permanently, according to journalist Steve Bates.

The Lowdown: Loaned out

Cancelo made 17 appearances for Man City in the Premier League this season but was loaned out to Bayern Munich for the remainder of the season in a surprise deadline-day move.

When asked whether the full-back has a future at the club, Pep Guardiola recently claimed that a decision will be taken at the end of the season, however, one journalist believes that the manager has already made his choice.

The Latest: Set to leave?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Bates indicated that Guardiola’s history of being ruthless with key players means that he will also allow the Portugal international to leave the club this summer. The journalist said:

“I think it’s very difficult once Guardiola lets you go out on loan. I think he’s probably made up his mind already.

“Guardiola sold Sterling, Jesus and Zinchenko last summer. They were really top, top players and doing well for him, but he let them go.

“Cancelo has obviously had disagreements with him and his form has gone. It has not been what it was, so I would suspect that Cancelo’s days at City are definitely over.”

The Verdict: Right call?

The 28-year-old was a key performer for the Sky Blues in the 2021/22 campaign, weighing in with seven assists in the Premier League, however, his form took a downward turn this season, making a very poor mistake in the loss against Liverpool at Anfield.

Since arriving at Bayern, the right-back has been lauded ‘fantastic’ by members of the media, helping himself to a goal and two assists in five Bundesliga appearances up to this point.

Given that Guardiola now has 18-year-old Rico Lewis at his disposal to provide cover for Kyle Walker, allowing Cancelo to leave may be the best option for all parties in the summer, especially considering Man City could receive £61.5m if Bayern decide to make his stay permanent.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool midfielder James Milner may leave this summer amid transfer interest in Jude Bellingham.

What’s the latest on Milner, Bellingham and Liverpool? The Reds have been said to be in the market for a new midfielder for some time now and the Borussia Dortmund star is understood to be one of the club’s biggest priorities this summer.However, manager Jurgen Klopp made it clear in January that the club don’t have the resources to just go out and sign expensive new players. With that in mind, it seems a few midfielders could be leaving Liverpool this summer to make way for Bellingham.Indeed, while talking on his YouTube channel, Romano noted that loanee Arthur Melo won’t be joining the club on a permanent basis, while Milner’s future is yet to be decided.He said (3:40): “Let’s see what happens with James Milner. This will be decided in the final months of the season.”But also Arthur Melo. Arthur will not stay at Liverpool next season. The idea is clear, he is expected to return to Juventus and then Juventus will discuss with other clubs to find a solution for Arthur.”But Liverpool will cut many players from that position because Jude Bellingham is the big target. Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey ‘won’t be involved’ in the Premier League game vs Aston Villa, according to journalist Chris Wheatley.

The Lowdown: Arteta’s update

The Ghanaian international sustained a muscular injury during training ahead of the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in midweek which saw him absent from the squad at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta admitted that he would have to make a late call on the 29-year-old’s fitness for today’s trip to the Midlands, and it sounds like a decision has now been made.

Taking to Twitter on Friday evening, Wheatley confirmed that Arsenal have decided not to risk Partey for the clash against Unai Emery’s side this afternoon. He wrote:

Partey has been a regular feature for Arsenal this season making 23 appearances across all competitions so it’ll be a blow for Arteta to be without his services for the second game running.
