A blistering Billy Stanlake spell and another Usman Khawaja masterclass guided Queensland to a four-wicket Marsh Cup win over Tasmania at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.Stanlake took a career-best 4 for 24 ripping through Tasmania’s top four with extreme pace and bounce while Khawaja controlled the chase superbly with a classy 93, following on from his fourth-innings century in the Sheffield Shield clash on Saturday.Stanlake set the game up after Queensland won the toss. He claimed all four wickets with short balls as Tim Paine, Caleb Jewell, and Mac Wright struggled to control hook and pull shots while Jake Doran gloved one through the keeper. When Marnus Labuschagne ran out Tom Andrews with a direct hit, the Tigers had slumped to 7 for 143 with 17.5 overs left in the innings. But Jordan Silk came to the rescue continuing the superb form he showed in the BBL. He made 77 from 88 balls to hold the innings together. He put on 53 with Nathan Ellis who contributed 21. Jackson Bird then clubbed 27 from 25 balls to lift the total up to 237. Matt Kuhnemann took 3 for 47 for the Bulls, including the key wicket of Silk.Khawaja then took charge in the chase. He put on a 53-run opening stand with Sam Heazlett and an 87-run stand with Joe Burns to break the back of the chase. Nathan Ellis returned for the Tigers to cause a few heart murmurs in the Queensland camp. He knocked over Burns and Khawaja in consecutive overs. But Jimmy Peirson steered the visitors home with 14 balls to spare.

The young Gunner returned from injury to torment Liverpool in an entertaining 2-2 draw that saw Saka net the opener a few minutes into the game. It marked his 50th Premier League goal, meaning he broke the club record set in 2001 by Henry, who was 24 when he bagged his half-century for the Gunners. Saka was asked about the achievement after the game, having appeared to copy Henry's iconic shrug celebration, and admitted everything he does for the club will be compared to the French legend.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I try to keep the keepers guessing. I think it was a nice finish, I haven't seen it back yet but it felt nice. He has every record Thierry Henry so it's nice but of course you wanna win the game but I have to be happy with this. Everything is Thierry Henry-ish. If you score it's Thierry Henry if you assist it's Thierry Henry. I'm feeling good. I felt I could finish the game but the gaffer took me off."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Saka already has four goals and seven assists in all competitions this term and has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League's most consistent players. At his current rate, the 23-year-old is on track to become one of Arsenals' most prolific players ever in the final third.

Man Utd player ratings vs Brentford: Alejandro Garnacho & Rasmus Hojlund are cooking! Forward duo ease pressure on Erik ten Hag as bloodied Matthijs de Ligt somehow completes the full 90

The young attacking talents lifted the Red Devils to a much-needed victory after a farcical end to the first half at Old Trafford

Erik ten Hag desperately needed a win after clinging on to his job during the international break and he finally got one with the help of some sharp shooting from Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, who fired Manchester United to a comeback win over Brentford.

Garnacho's volley early in the second half cancelled out Ethan Pinnock's header in the fifth minute of added time in the first, a goal fiercely contested by United's coaching staff as it came while Matthijs de Ligt was receiving treatment.

Hojlund gave United the lead with a lovely dinked finish and United just about saw the game out to earn a third victory in eight Premier League games. Could this be the start of a great revival that will vindicate INEOS' decision to keep faith in Ten Hag? If Garnacho and Hojlund keep this form up, then it just might be.

Andre Onana (6/10):

Rarely tested, tipping away a Christian Norgaard shot in the first half.

Diogo Dalot (5/10):

Carelessly lost track of Pinnock from the corner. Otherwise more comfortable back at right-back.

Matthijs de Ligt (5/10):

Should really have come off after taking a nasty bang to the head. Looked uncomfortable whenever he got in a foot race.

Jonny Evans (7/10):

Another vintage defensive performance, showing his experience and making up for slips by De Ligt and Martinez.

Lisandro Martinez (5/10):

Hit and miss as an emergency left-back. Struggled against Bryan Mbuemo but then improved and played his part in the comeback.

Christian Eriksen (6/10):

Continuing his unexpected resurgence. Helped set up the winner and his slick passing ensured United controlled the game.

Casemiro (6/10):

A very competent performance, making brave tackles and blocks to ensure United were rarely overrun in midfield.

Bruno Fernandes (6/10):

Was well contained by Brentford for most of the game but his deft touch played Hojlund in.

Alejandro Garnacho (8/10):

Always the dangerman, even when he missed good chances in the first half. Kept his head up and scored a fine volley.

Rasmus Hojlund (7/10):

His build-up play was excellent throughout and after a couple of misses rediscovered his goalscoring touch.

Marcus Rashford (6/10):

Played some good passes to Garnacho, including the cross for the equaliser. Let down by his own finishing in the area.

England tour has green light from South African sports ministry

England are due to travel to South Africa on Monday to begin 10 days in quarantine

Firdose Moonda15-Nov-2020England’s tour to South Africa remains green-lit by the country’s sports ministry, even as the minister, Nathi Mthethwa, is closer to intervening in the game’s governing body.A highly-placed source told ESPNcricinfo that the six-match white-ball series, which is scheduled to start on November 27, will be played “for the sake of the players and the cricket-loving public,” but that does not mean Cricket South Africa is off the hook. Instead, there remains a strong chance of Mthethwa using the National Sports and Recreation Act to step in at CSA (which could include withdrawing funding and stripping them of their status as a nationally representative body) if the members’ council does not recognise the interim board. The members’ council and interim board are due to meet imminently, where a final decision could be taken.ALSO READ: Appoint board or face sanctions – Mthethwa to members’ councilEven if the members’ council fail to recognise the interim board, as has been their stance so far, ministerial action may not result in the England tour being called off. England are due to travel to South Africa on Monday to begin a 10-day quarantine. All matches will be played in a bio-secure environment in the Western Cape, with fixtures at both Newlands and Boland Park. The series will be the first in South Africa since the country went into lockdown in March and the first international action the South African men’s team have had for more than seven months. They are also due to host Sri Lanka, Australia and Pakistan and could travel to Pakistan in the 2020-21 season, and it’s those fixtures that may be under threat if the members’ council does not comply with the sports minister.Mthethwa was forced to turn his attention to CSA after months of administrative issues which came to a head when the organisation refused to comply with instructions from the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), who asked for the board and executive to step aside while SASCOC conducted an inquiry into CSA’s affairs. SASCOC, which is a legislatively created umbrella body under whom all South Africa’s sports federations operate, then referred the matter to the ministry. The CSA board has since stood down but the members’ council, a body made up of the 14 provincial affiliate presidents, remain in place and have refused to recognise a nine-member interim board which Mthethwa was at the helm of convening. Instead, the members’ council believe they are in charge of the game. CSA are in a state of crisis, with financial losses looming, important negotiations over their new broadcast deal on the horizon and they are still operating under an acting CEO. The interventions by SASCOC and now Mthethwa are aimed at stabilising the organisation.

Club now plotting third Everton exit blow alongside Branthwaite and Onana

Any reason to be cheerful after securing Premier League safety for another season may be shortlived at Everton, with the summer transfer window potentially one full of frustration.

Everton transfer news

Without point deductions last season, Everton would have avoided a relegation scrap and sat comfortably in mid-table. That was their reality, however, and their problems off the pitch are yet to reach a conclusion, with 777 Partners' takeover now more and more unlikely to receive Premier League approval. Left in No Man's Land, the Toffees may be in a position in which selling star players is their only option this summer.

If that is to be the case, then Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite will be the most expensive assets likely to leave, with Newcastle United interested in the former and both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United reportedly eyeing a move for the latter. Both exits would ease Everton's financial concerns but, in doing so, significantly weaken Sean Dyche's squad, which seems unlikely to receive fresh reinforcements without a takeover.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

What's more, Branthwaite and Onana may not be the only players to depart. According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are now plotting a move to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they look to deal Everton a double blow and a third frustrating exit of the summer, should Onana and Branthwaite depart.

Suddenly, the Toffees would be left without a starting centre-back, starting midfielder and starting striker in what would be a summer full of negatives at Goodison Park. Whilst Calvert-Lewin has had his injury issues, given the departures already on the cards in Merseyside, the forward is one Dyche should be looking to keep hold of.

When the summer window swings open, Everton's backs certainly look set to be against the wall as they battle to keep the foundations of Dyche's squad together.

"Excellent" Calvert-Lewin is still important at Everton

If Everton had the financial backing, then landing an adequate replacement for Calvert-Lewin would be an ideal next step following his injury struggles, but whilst they remain without that, the forward remains important, especially if he does avoid any further absences.

Dyche is certainly a fan too, having told BBC Sport back in April after Calvert-Lewin scored in a shock win against Merseyside rivals Liverpool: "I thought he was excellent. His physical performance was outstanding. This season has not been too bad on the injury front. But it shows it does take time mentally and physically to clear your mind of that and start to play freely again."

In 26 starts, the England international finished on seven goals and two assists in the Premier League this season with four of those goals coming in Everton's final seven games.

It's the type of form that has seen Newcastle emerge as a potential destination, but also the kind that would finally end Everton's search for a consistent goalscorer again. That said, Calvert-Lewin looks likely to have a decision to make this summer, one way or another at Goodison Park.

Sourav Ganguly commits to India hosting England in February 2021

India will fulfill its Future Tours Programme (FTP) commitments and host England in February, before the 2021 IPL season, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said. In a letter to the board’s state associations with the subject line “Updates from BCCI”, Ganguly said the planning for the senior men’s team, including their tour to Australia in December, was in line with FTP commitments, while plans for the women’s team and domestic cricket were still under consideration.”The senior Indian men’s team will travel to Australia for its series starting in December this year and will come back to the country for a series against England starting from February next year,” Ganguly said in the letter dated August 20, accessed by ESPNcricinfo. “This will be followed by IPL 2021 in April. The tours of the senior Indian women’s teams are also under discussion and more details will be shared shortly.”Apart from a confirmation that India will be hosting the T20 World Cup next year and the 50-overs 2023 World Cup, this was the only definitive statement in the letter regarding India’s schedules. According to the FTP, India were already scheduled to play Australia in December, and host England for their last five World Test Championship matches in February 2021. While Ganguly said these long-term plans remain as they are, there was no mention of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in March that is part of their FTP cycle.Earlier this month, the BCCI had drawn up a tentative schedule for the domestic season that is yet to be ratified by the senior officers. In that plan was a truncated domestic season consisting only of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament and the Ranji Trophy for men, starting from November 19, and a Women’s T20 League to begin from November 1. But in the letter, there is no indication of whether those dates have been finalised.”In the domestic cricket context, we are currently in the off season and the BCCI is making all efforts to ensure that domestic cricket resumes as and when the conditions permit,” Ganguly said. “The health and safety of players and all other involved in domestic cricket is of utmost importance to BCCI and we are constantly monitoring all aspects.”ALSO READ – India could begin Australia tour with white-ball cricket, not TestsThe last bit of senior domestic cricket that happened this year was on March 13, the last day of the Ranji Trophy final between Saurashtra and Bengal. Since then, the Covid-19 pandemic has put most cricket – even training – on hold in the country. It was understood that the BCCI was making a “priority list” of domestic tournaments, and this was reflected in the tentative schedule, which had no provisions for any 50-overs cricket for men, and a cancellation of all Challenger Trophies, across age groups, for both men and women. As for IPL 2021, it will be the first instance of two versions of the tournament being played less than six months apart, should it happen in April. That could challenge the scheduled IPL mega auction that was supposed to be held before the 2021 season. As things stand, the only confirmed women’s cricket at the start of the new season is the Women’s T20 Challenge that will be played between November 1 and 10, alongside the IPL. However, that would be in conflict with the tentative schedule, which has the Women’s T20 League running from November 1 to 19. There is no clarity yet on that front.”All Members will be duly informed about the future course of action and suggestions will be taken before we resume domestic cricket,” Ganguly wrote in the letter. “We are hopeful that the Covid-19 situation will improve over the next few months and we will be able to start domestic cricket in a safe and healthy environment.”

Jadon Sancho accused of joining Chelsea 'for the money' with Man Utd loanee walking into 'inconsistent' club that 'must have two dressing rooms'

Jadon Sancho has been accused of joining Chelsea "for the money" as the Manchester United loanee walks into a club with "two dressing rooms".

Sancho has joined Chelsea on a loan dealSaid to have taken a pay cutPetit thinks otherwise & has questioned transferWHAT HAPPENED?

Sancho has shifted base from Manchester to London following a deadline day loan deal to Chelsea which includes an obligation to purchase the Englishman next summer, with the fee ranging between £20 million (€23m/$26m) and £25 million (€29m/$32m), depending on where the Blues finish in the Premier League.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE

After a nightmare spell at Old Trafford, Sancho was eager to revive his career and hence joined Chelsea after reportedly accepting a significant reduction in his salary. However, not everyone is convinced that Sancho’s move to Stamford Bridge is solely about football. Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has suggested that the 23-year-old’s decision to join the Blues might be driven more by financial incentives than a genuine desire to re-establish himself on the pitch.

WHAT PETIT SAID

In an interview with BetVictor, Petit said: "The club are not the only one responsible for the situation, it also comes down to the players. How can Sancho bring himself to sign for Chelsea after what happened at Manchester United? He was loaned to Borussia Dortmund, then went back to United, and now he’s off to Chelsea who have 40 or so players and he is just one of them.

“Hasn’t he had enough of moving around clubs, losing his way on the pitch and losing his confidence? Now he’s at a club that has no consistency, lacking in confidence and results. If he’s not there for the money, what is he there for?”

DID YOU KNOW?

In addition to criticizing Sancho’s decision, Petit also voiced his concerns over Chelsea’s broader transfer strategy. He questioned how the club, under the leadership of Todd Boehly, could maintain any sense of unity or coherence within a squad that seems to be perpetually expanding.

“I’m not sure how you can create unity between players who only think about themselves,” he said. "We should rename the transfer window as ‘the Chelsea transfer market’. I just don’t get what Todd Boehly’s transfer policy is.

“When I saw they had signed Jadon Sancho on deadline day, I wondered if there was even any shirt numbers left for him. Imagine him opening the door to the dressing room and seeing so many players – they don’t all fit in the same dressing room! At the training ground, they must have two dressing rooms, three pitches and 12 physios.”

Mullin passed the 100-goal mark for Wrexham during the 2023-24 campaign, hitting 24 in League Two to finish behind old adversary Macaulay Langstaff of Notts County in the Golden Boot stakes. County star Jodi Jones was, however, the most creative player in League Two over the course of the campaign – as he broke a record held by Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry when it comes to most assists in a single English season.

WHAT JONES SAID

Malta international Jones teed up 24 efforts for his team-mates, with that return seeing him to the PFA League Two Player of the Year award. He said of making history: “You hear people talk about strikers getting 24 or 25 goals, but with assists you hear more about 12 or 13, so when I do sit back and sometimes think I have 24 you do think it's some achievement. Getting 24 is amazing and if I'm being really honest, I don't think I'd get that many again.”
