Arsenal hold talks to sign £88m star who Bayern are ‘pushing very hard’ for

Arsenal have held negotiations with the representatives of a marquee forward who Bayern Munich really want to sign, according to a new report.

Arsenal linked with new forward despite near-£270m summer splash

Mikel Arteta is very well stocked for attacking options right now, with sporting director Andrea Berta also spending nearly £270 million on eight major signings in the summer.

This shopping spree included Noni Madueke — who scored a brace against Club Brugge in the Champions League last night — Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres.

The presence of highly-rated attacking youngsters like Ethan Nwaneri, with Gabriel Jesus also returning from injury against Brugge and Kai Havertz due back soon, makes the prospect of a new attacker almost feel unnecessary.

However, that hasn’t stopped reports from suggesting the Gunners could strengthen in the final third next year.

Standout attacker 'will soon sign' for Arsenal with talks in 'full swing'

He’s been in fine form this season.

ByEmilio Galantini 5 days ago

Gabriel Martinelli became the first Arsenal player in history to score in five consecutive Champions League games last night, but with his contract expiring in 2027, Berta and Arteta need to consider the long term.

The same can be said of in-form winger Leandro Trossard, whose contract also expires in 2027 despite signing a new and improved deal recently, which included a deserved pay rise.

Juventus star Kenan Yildiz reportedly has admirers at Arsenal amid his contract situation and stellar last 18 months in Turin, while other media sources claim that the north Londoners are contenders for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in January.

The Ghanaian has been one of the Premier League’s standout forwards this season and is a self-proclaimed Arsenal supporter, with his tantalising £65 million release clause – active in early January – enticing plenty of interest.

Another exciting forward who Arsenal are paying attention too comes in the form of RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande.

The teenager is in ‘sensational’ form for Leipzig right now, as per Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, after an impressive 11 goal contributions in his last 15 total appearances.

Diomande only made his first ever senior club appearance in March, thereafter joining Leipzig in a £17.5 million deal from Leganes last summer.

His rise has been nothing short of superb, with the Bundesliga side now poised to demand an eye-watering £88 million for his signature.

Arsenal hold talks with top Bayern Munich target Yan Diomande

That is according to TEAMtalk and other sources, who report that the Ivory Coast sensation is a wanted man.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético Madrid are all credited with an interest in Diomande, but it is Bayern who are ‘pushing very hard’ and regularly talking to his entourage.

However, TT also state that Arsenal have held their own talks with Diomande’s camp as the winger continues to garner elite admirers from all over Europe.

Liverpool are also in what has been described as ‘daily contact’ too, with the race for Africa’s latest rising star heating up as we fast approach 2026.

According to Sky Switzerland reporter Sacha Tavolieri last week, Tottenham have held ‘very advanced’ discussions with Diomande’s camp as well, so Arsenal could seriously upset their arch rivals alongside the likes of Bayern and Liverpool.

That being said, his quite extraordinary £88m price tag will make Berta think twice, as the raw talent is still a pretty unknown quantity after only just bursting on to the scene this calendar year.

Le Bris can drop Isidor by unleashing Sunderland's £60k-p/w "freight-train"

The international break is finally over and Sunderland return to action in the Premier League this afternoon as they travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham.

Regis Le Bris’ side have not played a game since their 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Stadium of Light before the break, and they will be looking to build on that with another positive result against a London-based club.

Despite picking up an excellent point against the Gunners, the Black Cats boss may still look to make some changes to his starting line-up from that match, including dropping centre-forward Wilson Isidor.

Why Sunderland should drop Wilson Isidor

The French marksman has scored four goals in 11 appearances in the Premier League so far this season, per Sofascore, and done so from an xG of 2.49, which shows that he has been efficient in front of goal.

However, the 25-year-old attacker has only scored one goal in his last six outings in the division, after three in the first five matches, per Sofascore, which shows that his form has dropped off slightly.

On top of that, his last two appearances for the Black Cats in the Premier League have left a bit to be desired, as his all round game has been underwhelming.

As you can see in the table above, the Sunderland marksman struggled when leading the line against both Everton and Arsenal, losing the majority of his ground duels across both matches without providing much in the way of quality on the ball.

His loose passing combined with his lack of end product and physical struggles could see Le Bris take him out of the starting line-up for this clash with Fulham, to provide another player with an opportunity.

With this in mind, the Black Cats head coach should unleash summer signing Brian Brobbey as the starting number nine ahead of Isidor this afternoon.

Why Brian Brobbey should start for Sunderland against Fulham

The obvious reason as to why the Dutch centre-forward should start against Fulham is that he came off the bench to score a brilliant goal against Arsenal before the break.

After coming on for Isidor, who struggled, the 22-year-old attacker showed great quality, composure, and strength to score the equaliser, as shown in the clip above.

The £60k-per-week striker is yet to start a match in the Premier League for the Black Cats, with six appearances off the bench, yet he has already had two major moments in a red and white shirt.

After coming off the bench against Chelsea at the end of October, Brobbey showed terrific pace, strength, and awareness to race onto a ball over the top, hold off Tosin Adarabioyo, and tee up Chemsdine Talbi to score the winner in stoppage time.

This means that the Dutch whiz’s contributions off the bench have earned Sunderland an extra three points in the last three matches, with two extra points won against Chelsea and one against Arsenal.

Brobbey, who U23 scout Antonio Mango described as “a freight-train when dribbling”, has not been given the chance to showcase his quality as a starter in the Premier League, but this clash with Fulham could be the ideal opportunity for Le Fee to do so.

After Isidor’s struggles in recent matches, bringing in the former Ajax marksman to reward him for his exceptional performances off the bench of late could be a good move this afternoon.

Tigers Prospect Jackson Jobe Oozes Confidence With Hilarious Quote in Spring Training

You don't have to question Detroit Tigers up-and-coming pitcher Jackson Jobe's confidence.

MLB Pipeline's No. 5 prospect started for the Tigers against the Toronto Blue Jays during spring training Saturday. The Tigers lost 5-0, but Jobe threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit. He had one emphatic strikeout in the outing, which came against Toronto slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero went down swinging as he whiffed on a 97-mph fastball from Jobe.

Jobe threw three straight fastballs to Guerrero. The first was fouled off, the next two were swings and misses. After the game, the young right-handed hurler spoke to his approach during the matchup. He exuded confidence and delivered a hilarious quote.

"I'm done with trying to dot a gnat's a–," Jobe said via Evan Petzold of the . "Just, here's my stuff. If you hit it, good. Odds are, probably not."

Whoever he sees at the plate, safe to say he won't be scared in the slightest.

The Tigers called up Jobe late in the season last year to aid in their improbable run to the postseason. He made two appearances in the regular season, both from the bullpen, where he threw four total innings, surrendering just one hit and no earned runs. He made two appearances during the postseason, too, where he threw 1 2/3 innings and gave up five hits and three earned runs.

Jobe is expected to enter the Tigers' starting rotation in his upcoming rookie season. He's working to get comfortable over the spring. And he's done just that thus far.

Daniel Hughes scores 151 as Sussex respond strongly

Warwickshire ended their first innings on 415 after their last three wickets added a further 43 runs

Sussex 278 for 3 (Hughes 151, Coles 56*) trail Warwickshire 415 (Yates 93, Hain 87, Barnard 66, Crocombe 3-82) by 137 runsDaniel Hughes made a season’s best 151 before departing to the last ball of the second day as Sussex made a strong response to Warwickshire’s 415 in the Rothesay County Championship. The 36-year-old Australian left-hander was lbw to off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli off the penultimate delivery of the last over as Sussex reached 278 for 3.Hughes had shared an opening partnership of 98 with Tom Haines and then added 142 with James Coles as the combination of a flat pitch, a Kookaburra ball doing little off the straight and the pitiless Hove heat made it a tough day for Warwickshire’s attack.Rocchiccioli toiled away manfully, bowling unchanged for two sessions apart from a solitary over, from the sea end to pick up all three Sussex wickets for 94 from 35 overs. Both Hughes and Coles’ scoring options were limited after tea when Warwickshire skipper Alex Davies employed as many as eight leg-side fielders as he rotated his seamers while Rocchiccioli wheeled away at the other end. It looked like being a fruitless session for the Bears until Rocchiccioli, armed with the new ball, skidded a quicker delivery onto Hughes’ pads for a belated but deserved reward. Hughes’ 151 came off 260 deliveries with 26 fours.Hughes had only previously passed fifty three times this season, although 60 against Durham last week hinted at a return to form. Here, the majority of his boundaries came through his strong areas between extra cover and mid-off. It was an impressive physical effort too, given the scorching temperatures.Warwickshire wicketkeeper Kai Smith was convinced Haines had edged a ball from Rocchiccioli in his fourth over but the umpire was unmoved and in his next over Haines lofted Rocchiccioli for six, necessitating a ball change. It did the trick as Rocchiccioli got enough grip to knock back Haines’ off stump and end an opening stand of 98 in 22 overs.Rocchiccioli had a second wicket in the 32nd over when the out of form Tom Clark, who’d faced 28 balls for his five, was held low down at slip pushing forward by Tom Latham. Clark made 140 when the teams met at Edgbaston in April but his last 11 Championship innings have yielded a meagre 79 runs.Sussex scored 140 in the afternoon session with Hughes reaching his tenth first-class hundred by taking two boundaries in three balls off Ethan Bamber. The runs dried up after tea, though, as Warwickshire went on the defensive and Rocchiccioli plugged away trying to force a mistake. Even Coles, who likes to get on with it, was becalmed for long spells as 78 were scored in the final session. Coles was still there at the close, though, having passed fifty for the fifth time this season just before stumps.Earlier, Warwickshire’s last three wickets added a further 43 runs in just under an hour.Ollie Robinson struck in the second over of the day when he found Smith’s inside edge and Gurinder Sandhu also claimed his third wicket of the innings when he had Chris Rushworth caught behind. Jack Carson trapped Bamber in front with a ball which kept a shade low to end the innings.

Man Utd sent brutal message over Adam Wharton interest as Crystal Palace chief makes Champions League admission

Manchester United have been sent a message over their interest in Adam Wharton's transfer as Crystal Palace chief admitted that the midfielder would want to play in the Champions League in the future. The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the English midfielder as they look to replace an ageing Casemiro, while Kobbie Mainoo could also exit Old Trafford due to lack of game time.

Wharton has established himself as a star at Selhurst Park

It has been less than two years since Crystal Palace signed Wharton in a bargain deal worth £22 million ($29m). The midfielder struggled with injuries in his first full season at the club, but he still managed to appear in 27 games across all competitions and played a key role in Palace winning the FA Cup last season by beating Manchester City in the final. They topped it by bagging the Community Shield at the start of the 2025-26 season, as they got the better of reigning English champions Liverpool.

At just 21, Wharton has already established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and a future star for the England national team. He earned his maiden and only international cap in June last year, as he featured in a pre-Euro friendly match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportParish sends out message to Man Utd

Wharton's impressive stint at Selhurst Park has already attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Spanish giants Real Madrid and Premier League's Manchester United. Addressing Wharton's transfer links, Palace co-owner Steve Parish told : "I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club. He's an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can't speak for Adam, but I think he's focused on his time at Crystal Palace. He had a broken season last season with the groin issues that he had that a lot of young players get.

"I think this season he's completely focused on putting the games in, getting in the England squad, being a regular for us, and making sure that he can show that Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday. It's a difficult programme for us right now. I think he's very committed to the club. I don't know where all this stuff comes from."

When asked particularly about United's link, Parish said there was no "real pressure" from Wharton to move to Old Trafford: "If Manchester United want Adam Wharton, that's nothing surprising really about that. The fact of the matter is he's got a long contract to run. There's no pressure on us to do it, and I don't think there's any real pressure from the player either.”

Man Utd want Wharton to bolster midfield

United did spent heavily to strengthen their attack in the last summer transfer window, as they brought in big names like Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Their midfield, however, still remains an area of concern. The Red Devils see Wharton as a long-term replacement for an ageing Casemiro, while youth product Kobbie Mainoo could exit Old Trafford due to lack of game time under Ruben Amorim.

United had also pushed to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton towards the end of the summer transfer window but a move for the Seagulls star failed to come to fruition due to his massive price tag of £115million ($156m). Some reports have suggested that United could make another move for the youngster at the turn of the year.

AFPWharton left out of latest England squad

Wharton failed to make England boss Thomas Tuchel's latest squad for the World Cup qualifiers in October, despite having a bright start to the season with the Eagles. The midfielder later revealed that he got an explanation from the Three Lions boss on his omission, as he said: "He just gave me a message saying I'm playing well, I'm close and I deserve to be there, but he's going to stick with the same team. That's football, I'm not too fussed about that. I can take the time off, go see my grandparents, and it's not the end of the world, as there's another camp next month. I'm just focusing on Crystal Palace and playing well, and hopefully, if I play well, I'll get the call. It's nice to hear, but I think my focus is on Palace and if that goes well, then England is just a bonus."

New role for Harry Kane? Bayern Munich star opens up on Nicolas Jackson relationship after Champions League rout of Pafos

Harry Kane opened up on his relationship with Nicolas Jackson after Bayern Munich's Champions League rout of Pafos. The Bavarians unleashed a merciless storm in Cyprus, tearing apart Pafos with a crushing 5-1 continental triumph. Kane bagged a brace, Raphael Guerreiro and Michael Olise also chipped in, and Jackson grabbed his first goal since arriving from Chelsea in the summer window.

Getty Images SportBayern blitz leaves Pafos in ruins

Bayern had the game in the bag by half-time, storming into a 4-0 lead. The demolition was historic too: the third time Bayern have rattled in four goals within the opening 35 minutes of a Champions League away clash. Roma in 2014, Viktoria Plzen in 2022, and now Pafos all know the feeling of being steamrolled by the German giants.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportKane gives credit to Jackson

After the final whistle, Kane was quick to shine the spotlight on his new strike partner Jackson. The England captain also explained how the duo worked in tandem to wreak havoc, which could serve as a blueprint for the rest of the season.

"Jackson played from the start today. At times, I dropped back a bit, more like a number 10; he came in, received balls," Kane explained. "I think it's important to keep surprising the defenders and not do the same thing the whole game. Nico was fantastic today: a goal, an assist, and almost another goal at the end. I'm very happy for him."

Kane made it clear that Jackson isn’t just a stopgap loan signing, but a crucial weapon.

"We'll need him all season; he should stay fit and fresh," he added. "Today was a really good game from him. It might have looked easy, but that was due to how we played. With our pressing, the second balls, the way we played through the lines. We have this momentum and we're determined to maintain it."

Jackson delighted to get off the mark

For Jackson, the strike was more than just a number on the scoresheet; it was a release. After a rough few months, the forward admitted he’s still rebuilding his sharpness.

“It wasn’t easy, but we played a very good game and worked hard,” Jackson said. “I’m very happy to score my first goal for the club. I’m still getting back to full fitness because I hadn’t played and trained alone for two months. I’m working hard every day.”
